So LEGO developed this “contest” website back in 2008 called LEGO Cuusoo, where builders could create original sets and submit them in the hope that they would receive enough votes to become a real LEGO set. It should be noted that Cuusoo means “wish” in a rough translation of Japanese. Check out the official site and start voting yourself or maybe create a winning set!! In fact, we reported to you last week about an awesome Ghostbusters set that just made it past the 10,000 likes point, it would be amazing if we saw this set sometime down the road. Even an Ecto-1 with the team is enough for me!! Just another awesome Geekly property turned to Brick! So what about this Back to the Future set that I put together today? Back to the Future, wow what a movie! A game-changer in the eighties that brought on two great sequels (Film Fact: BTTF2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back! Who can forget the story of Marty McFly as he travels through time in a Delorean?! Those movies were some of my favorites when I was younger, and now I can build my own Delorean time-machine! LEGO Cuussoo set #004 created by m.togami. The Doc Brown and Marty mini-figs are great, and we’ll get to that later! Check out the original set that was submitted to the contest:

I would have loved to see some more BTTF 2&3 Mini-fig accessories, but I’m not complaining about what I got, I just love that BTTF 2 Doc and Hoverboard! At a great price, expect to pay around $35-$45, this set is well worth the purchase and is a great addition to my Geekly display!

I love the packaging on this one from a collector’s stand point. I do not need to destroy the box, it actually acts as a holding case for the car and extra pieces when you are finished constructing it! Solid “tuck” box with graphic work on both front and back only add to the value of this set.

The two mini-figs we get with this set are really the prize of the set. I cannot express to you what adding both Marty McFly and Doc Brown to my growing Geekly LEGO Mini-fig collection means to me. I really appreciate the attention to detail by giving Doc his stopwatch. I would love to see LEGO make accessories to add-on to these two to make them into their sequel counterparts!

Building this baby, that was another story. This is not your child-friendly set like Star Wars or LOTR or even Batman. No, BTTF is made up of a TON of small pieces making it a little tedious to put together. When you are done, its ok, but expect to be searching through a lot of pieces if you do not carefully separate at the beginning. The key pieces are all here, the Flux Capacitor, the time guages, even the license plate that reads “OUTATIME”!

The payoff is good at the end, as Doc Brown’s famous Delorean time-machine is a great looking set. The absence of glass windows of any sort is a little strange, but the construction works. My biggest issue is that the car is so delicate. The pieces that act as the windshield frame and the doors both easily fall off. In the end it is a display piece, and what LEGO has put together works very nicely for that nostalgic collector.

One of the best parts of this set is the fact that LEGO gave us additional pieces so we could make all three versions of the Delorean! From the Mr. Fusion powered flying one in BTTF2 to the train-track running broken down hunk of junk in the third, you can display any of the Deloreans! Cool right?!

BTTF 28

The LEGO Cuusoo Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine gets a 4.5 outta 5 stars. I only take away the half star because of how delicate the set is. Other than that I suggest that everyone who is either a fan of the movie or a LEGO fan, or even BOTH! Get on this one before it sells out. Don’t buy it for a kid, buy it for yourself. Too many small pieces anyways! I really hope that Ghostbusters set goes through…. And now a message from the creator:

“MESSAGE FROM MASASHI

“My name is Masashi, a founder of Team BTTF. I’d like to thank you for visiting my page!I’m a Huge fan of the “Back to the Future (BTTF)” series, I even remember it as the first movie I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been in love with the series ever since! When I was a child I tried many times to build the DeLorean Time Machine, however, the project was a difficult one because I lacked some specific LEGO bricks and minifigures.LEGO CUUSOO is where wishes come true. Also, I strongly believe quotes from BTTF.”If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.””Your future is whatever you make it.”Now, my dream is to create a Back to the Future themed series through LEGO CUUSOO.Please support and spread the word about my dream to make this a reality!
