What’s the latest from the world of DC Comics? Let’s find out!

This is our New 52 Lobo? The biggest WTF of the day next to BatFleck

I’m not sure what is going on these past two days in the comic world, especially the DC side of things. But I sure feel like I’m in Bizarro world. Check out the reveal of the “REAL” Lobo, who will be showing up during Villains Month in Justice League 23.2, AKA Lobo #1. So what do you think of the DC Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras redesigned look for the “Main Man“?! Sound off in the comments Towelites!

“Back when we introduced this “What’s New In The New 52” column, I told you that the most important word in The New 52 is “New.” We’re always striving to keep things exciting, different and surprising. Which is why JUSTICE LEAGUE #23.2: LOBO (from the creative team of Marguerite Bennett, Ben Oliver, Cliff Richards and Daniel Brown) contains a major surprise – one we’ve had planned for a while. The Lobo you’ve seen so far in the New 52 is not who you think he is. In this one-shot, you’ll be introduced to the real Lobo. A ruthless killer, Lobo is on a quest to kill the man who has taken his name. This Lobo is equal parts strong, vicious, and driven. There’s a darker and more logical idea about what a force of nature like him is capable of. After all, this is someone who can infiltrate high society, fly a space ship, and adhere to a very specific moral code that’s not your typical anti-hero one. Oh, and, this one-shot takes place very far away from Earth. And when I say very far away, I mean it takes place literally on the other side of the galaxy.”

Joker’s New Friend

A story for the ages, the Joker takes new villain Jackanapes, a gorilla, under his wing. This story is one of the earliest New 52 encounters that we have had with the clown prince of crime! He actually has his face intact still! I am really looking forward to September for all of the great books and writers taking on the darker side of DC. Check this story out in Batman #23.1 aka Joker #1 by Andy Kubert, Andy Clarke, and Jason Fabok during DC Comics epic event Villains Month!

Harley Quinn 0 coverSpeaking of Joker sidekicks! Harley Quinn has been popping up in the news lately. If you didn’t know, Harley Quinn is actually a character that was created for the TV show, Batman the Animated Series. Harley also has a new ongoing series about her starting this Fall and her co-creator, the great Bruce Timm, will be doing some special art for the issue. A little insight into the character, Harley Quinn was first introduced to the comic book world in 1997 in an Elseworlds tale, Batman: ThrillKiller, but Harley’s “first appearance” would be her One-Shot back in 1999, officially introducing her to the DCU cannon. She would later have one of the most successful runs (38 issues from 2001-2003) for a character created after the Silver Age. Look for Harley Quinn #0 this November!

In other stranger Harley Quinn news, Battlestar Galactica alumni, Katee Sackhoff has expressed great interest in playing Harley Quinn in a live action movie or even TV show. She has offered up her first-born child for a shot at playing the role. Remember the days when NOONE wanted to be in comic book movies….

“I love Harley Quinn. I do. I just love it. It’s not been done before. It’s this fantastic mix. I mean, it’s like the female Joker. Who wouldn’t want to do that? Quite potentially — it’s not around so I wouldn’t feel the weight of it — I’d probably sell my first born at this point to do that.”

The Justice League of…. Canada?

Jeff Lemire, a Canadian himself, and DC Comics announced that in 2014 the current Justice League of America title will become the Justice League of Canada. The team will move to the great north and be handling the world’s problems from there. Currently JLA is being written by Geoff Johns with some collaboration with Lemire during the Trinity War event, but as announced at the Fan Expo convention in Toronto today, so the series seems pretty legit. Lemire had the following to say to The Star:

“This is like my ultimate dream job, It sounds like a joke and something like this would never happen, but it is actually happening, and I couldn’t be happier. Much of the action will take place in Toronto, but the actual team will be based around James Bay and Moosonee. I do want to create a cool, rural Northern Ontario headquarters for Justice League Canada, and I don’t want to spoil it yet, and it’s not a hockey rink, I promise. Although, of course, it did cross my mind. It’s not really like Alpha Flight, as we’re not creating a bunch of very Canadian characters, like those characters are all almost clichéd Canadian archetypes. This is still very much set in the regular Justice League universe and the team will still have some of the bigger named superheroes, but they will actually be located in Canada now, and there will be a couple of new members who are Canadian. So obviously as a Canadian, and as a Canadian storyteller, it’s something I’m very proud of.”
