Jason Aaron is leaving his epic run on Star Wars comics over at Marvel on issue #37. He’s been bridging the gap between episodes IV and V since Disney took over LucasFilm and decided to make all comics, movies, tv shows, and novels part of an overall ‘canon’. Aaron is best known for his work on Thor and has injected some amazing new stories into Star Wars, including Obi Wan and Yoda adventures.

Now, he’s going to be leaving the comic to be working on Marvel 1,000,000 B.C., a new event thrusting Marvel Superheroes into prehistoric times. That leaves the comic open to a new writer, enter: Kieron Gillen. Gillen isn’t new to the Star Wars game as he wrote the completely effing epic comic, Darth Vader, and is also writing the on-going Doctor Aphra series. If anyone was going to be taking over for Aaron, Gillen is the guy.

Below we have a quote from him regarding stepping into Aaron’s shoes from StarWars.com:

“My aim’s simple – to do what Salva and I did with Darth Vader, but for Leia, Luke and Han. As in, chart the rise and fall of the Rebellion between A New Hope and the Empire Strikes Back, how it changes them all and how it changes the universe,” said Gillen. “So a simple aim, but as nightmarishly tricky to pull off as dropping a proton torpedo down a thermal exhaust port. But hopefully as thrilling if we pull it off. I can’t wait till you see it up. First up: the post-apocalyptic hell that remains of Jedha after the Death Star punched a hole through its mantle.”
