It was Kerry’s first date since his wife passed away. Fourteen years ago he lost the love of his life, everything kept moving so fast he never got a chance to pick up the baton again. His kid was graduating high school this year and had introduced him to a dating app on his phone. He took it as a not so subtle hint that it was okay to move on. Sandra was his heart, and always would be, but it’s okay to try to love again.

Maestros #1 (Image)

Steve Skroce (W) Steve Skroce/Dave Stewart (A)

In the new tradition of putting new comics at the top, this has landed on the top of the stack. That being said, I am so fucking excited for this series it isn’t even funny. It would land a lot higher if not for my rule. Damn my rule.

Made Men #2 (Oni Press)

Paul Tobin (W) Arjuna Susini (A)

The first issue was pretty interesting, nice concept, but I’ll have to be a little cautious going forward. I’m not 100% sold yet.

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #5 (Marvel)

Chip Zdarsky (W) Adam Kubert (A)

Excited to see a Spidey comic that doesn’t revolve around him being some sort of business genius/company CEO, but this comic falls a little flat for me sometimes. Other times it soars as one of the better Spider-Man comics. Maybe it’s just me.

Invincible Iron Man #593 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Stefano Caselli/ Alex Maleev (A)

THE TWO IRON MAN SERIES HAVE FUSED INTO ONE ULTRA IRON MAN SERIES! Seriously, I didn’t know Maleev was jumping on this comic. That makes me a lot more excited for it.

Champions #13 (Marvel)

Mark Waid (W) Humberto Ramos (A)

I really dug the first part of the Avengers/Champions team up. Excited to see where it goes. While I love the whole jaded Avengers meet optimistic young Champions vibe, I do kinda wish the Avengers would act like adults.

Batman: The Drowned #1 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Philip Tan (A)

These tie-ins have been fucking awesome. Metal as fuck. A+

Green Arrow #33 (DC)

Ben Percy (W) Jamal Campbell (A)

Really sad to see Ferryera leaving interiors, but I have hope for this Mr. Campbell. He was gifted with a fortunate name for my mercy. Kinda tired of the Ninth Circle stuff, not gonna lie, but I’ll take it if it keeps bringing me good stories like the last arc.

Bitch Planet: Triple Feature #5 (Image)

Matt Fraction/ Nyambi Nyambi/ Bassey Nyambi/ Eyang Nyambi/ Jon Tsuei (W) Elsa Charretier (A)

Mr. Fraction himself on the deck! Along with a host of other creators. This series is a solid read, and I am enjoying every issue. Pick it up you fools.

The Wild Storm #8 (DC)

Warren Ellis (W) Jon Davis-Hunt (A)

Fuck this comic is a wild ride. That is all.

The Mighty Thor #700 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Becky Cloonan/Chris Burnham/Olivier Coipel/Walt Simonson/James Harren/Andrew MacLean/Daniel Acuna/Russell Dauterman (A)

Look at all the talent on this book. I think this is going to be a very special issue. I’m really excited to see all these artists in one book.

Sherlock Frankenstein and the Legion of Evil #1 (Dark Horse)

Jeff Lemire (W) David Rubin (A)

This one doesn’t count in the “new #1” groupings. It’s a spin-off of Black Hammer, written by Lemire and arted by Rubin. Come on. We all know it’s going to be good. Shut up about it.

Shirtless Bear-Fighter! #5 (Image)

Sevastian Girner/Jody Leheup (W) Nil Vendrell/Mike Spicer (A)

It wonderfully strange sun spot of a comic is coming to a close finally. I don’t know how I feel about that yet. Ask me when I read it.

The Realm #2 (Image)

Seth M. Peck (W) Jeremy Haun (A)

The first issue of this comic was fucking great. It was a phenomenal journey that promises unending fun. If you missed it, you suck. But really, why did you miss it? I told you to grab it.

Curse Words #9 (Image)

Charles Soule (W) Ryab Browne (A)

I am always happy with this comic. Thank you comic Gods for being merciful.

Descender #25 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W) Dustin Nguyen (A)

This arc is giving me everything I thought I wanted and more. I feel like that comes with a price. Don’t make me regret things I love.

Generation Gone #4 (Image)

Ales Kot (W) Andre Lima Araujo/ Chris O’Halloran (A)

Holy shit, I love this comic so much. I missed Kot so much, he is a welcome relief in the comic scene. I am looking forward to his other comic later this year.

Batman #33 (DC)

Tom King (W) Joelle Jones (A)

WELL THAT WAS UNEXPECTED!

Kill or Be Killed #13 (Image)

Ed Brubaker (W) Sean Phillips/ Elizabeth Breitweiser (A)

I shouldn’t have to justify this comic to you, as you should already be reading it. If you trust my opinion you would listen to me. Are you listening to me? You should be listening to me.

She walked in and Kerry started weeping. For some reason, the woman in front of him understood. He looked into his wife’s eyes again. Eyes that hadn’t been ravaged by cancer and fear. The eyes he fell in love with when he was a reckless twenty something. Through his tears he could see that familiar smile.
