He felt like he was falling into infinity. He stared at the black screen in front of him and wondered how everything had gone so wrong. The love of his life had left, and he was a light year away from her. A light year away from her decision. The window was cold. Which wasn’t supposed to happen. Strange the things you notice in the moments you are most broken.

Evolution #1 (Image)

James Asmus/Joshua Williamson/Christopher Sebela/ Joseph Keatinge (W) Joe Infurnari/Jordan Boyd (A)

New number 1! As if I didn’t already spend too much at the comic shops. This series intrigues me because of the amount of writing credits, along with the strange subject matter. A horror story about amplified evolution in humans. Sounds gruesome, very good.

The Punisher #218 (Marvel)

Matthew Rosenberg (W) Guiu Vilanova (A)

While obviously not technically a #1, it is a new creative team on a book that I’ve been very excited for for a few months now. What makes the Punisher even deadlier? A Punisher with frickin sweet shoulder rocket launchers.

Justice League #33 (DC)

Bryan Hitch (W) Tyler Kirkham (A)

Tie in to Metal. That makes it worth your time. Even if you dropped this book after issue two. You know, like I did.

The Family Trade #2 (Image)

Justin Jordan/Nikki Ryan (W) Morgan Been (A)

Not sure how I feel about this book yet. That’s not always a great sign, but I’ve definitely been wrong before. The art though. Holy shit, is it pretty.

Champions #14 (Marvel)

Mark Waid (W) Humberto Ramos/Victor Olazaba (A)

Weird things happening in this book. Not sure how I feel about all that.

Hawkeye #12 (Marvel)

Kelly Thompson (W) Michael Walsh (A)

This series is always a breath of fresh air. It’s fun and light and easy to fall for. I always dig it.

Curse Words #10 (Image)

Charles Soule (W) Ryan Browne (A)

I feel like this one has slowed down a little bit after the insanity that was the first arc. I hope it doesn’t suffer from exhaustion so early, I really love this book.

The Defenders #7 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) David Marquez (A)

This series is always fast and wild. I love that about the series, but I’m not gonna lie. I really miss the mystical feel of the other Defenders series. Obviously, times change, but I think it would be awesome to see a cosmic or mystical character pop into the equation.

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-man #297 (Marvel)

Chip Zdarsky (W) Adam Kubert (A)

That last issue was phenomenal. This series has a lot of heart and that makes it that much better than the next comic. If you love Peter, you need to read this book.

Maestros #2 (Image)

Steve Skroce (W/A)

The first issue of this comic was bonkers. It sets up a great premise and a solid execution for the first issue. I am really excited to see where Steve takes us.

The Mighty Thor #701 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) James Harren (A)

That last issue was worth every penny. Now we have a new artist and it’s a face I am familiar and happy with. I can’t wait to see Harren’s Thor.

The Wild Storm #9 (DC)

Warren Ellis (W) Jon Davis-Hunt (A)

I feel like I don’t have to tell you that this series is nuts. It’s a great kind of nuts. A lightly salted assortment.

Babyteeth #6 (Aftershock)

Donny Cates (W) Garry Brown (A)

What does a satan baby need? A satan pet.

Doctor Strange #381 (Marvel)

Donny Cates (W) Gabriel Hernandez Walta (A)

Super excited for the new team on this book. I’ve been hearing a lot about this recently and I think Loki is going to make a great sorcerer supreme and nothing bad will happen and everyone will be happy.

The Realm #3 (Image)

Seth M. Peck (W) Jeremy Haun (A)

The pacing on this book is impeccable. It moves the story further without pushing too far too fast and really sets the tone for the creeping dread of this post apocalypse.

The Batman Who Laughs #1 (DC)

James Tynion IV (W) Riley Rossmo (A)

As if you weren’t already excited about this book, look at that fucking team. This one is going to be blowing pants off of bodies.

Descender #26 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W) Dustin Nguyen (A)

I really love this cover. Look at that. It’s simple, even basic, but it captures something at the heart of this story. Isolation.

Generation Gone #5 (Image)

Ales Kot (W) Andre Lima Araujo (A)

Kids with powers. Only they aren’t stereotypes of “young people” and they also are very smart and also they are hormonal and also they are abusive. Interesting.

Batman #35 (DC)

Tom King (W) Joelle Jones (A)

Realistically, can Catwoman defeat Talia? I have no idea. I mean, I’d say no, but I’d probably be wrong, so I’m hedging my bets.

East of West #35 (Image)

Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Dragotta (A)

Yay, it’s back. I think. I mean this isn’t a series synonymous with reliable scheduling. It’s back for now at least and that’s reason to celebrate.

Black Science #33 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Matteo Scalera (A)

This comic ends in about nine issues from what I hear. Can I say, I am really excited to see it end so I can buy it all in crazy big deluxe editions and sit in a dark room reading it for a week? Is that a weird thing to fetishize?

He swung through zero G and checked the controls. It hit him in the gut. His sorrow was going to be short lived. The oxygen levels in his craft were and 20% and diminishing rapidly. The last thing on his mind as he took his last thin breath was the fear of dying alone. And then he did.
