It was that time of year again. The High Priestess of Glonsterbury fashioned the creames, the sweet pies, Pokinsbeef casseroles, Salsmoar turnovers, and the many many mashed corn sides, all this sunup. They were laid out, glistening in the teal glow of the evening God. Shim smiled with envy at the meal she could not participate in, but so lovingly prepared. She left for her hut, which being made entirely of the sentient spring water of Lake Shirrakka, glowed with impregnated glory. She found the prize for the year. A box. Nothing more, just a large black box. Nothing that would give anyone any happiness in the future, but could act as a temporary gauze to sate the anxieties and pain of life.

Exodus: The Life After #9 (Oni Press)

Joshua Hale Fialkov (W) Gabo (A)

This series began to pick up the pace again, I suppose that may have something to do with the series coming to a close in just two issues. It’s weird. This comic has had it’s ups and downs, mostly the former, and I haven’t really heard many people talk about this one. Well, I’m talking about it, and if you are reading this, you should go pick it up, either in trade or individual issues.

Old Man Logan #14 (Marvel)

Jeff Lemire (W) Andrea Sorrentino (A)

New arc starts with this issue. What’s interesting here is that it’s an issue featuring the crazy new Howling Commandos, you remember, that series that fell off after only six issues. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the series, I am interested in seeing what Lemire does with the strange folk.

Ms. Marvel #13 (Marvel)

G. Willow Wilson (W) Takeshi Miyagawa (A)

After some soul searching, Kamala is back in time to vote for the president, or something, I mean that’s what people do right? Vote? This series has hit another stride recently, and I’m excited to see what this team has to say about…the vote…or whatever.

IvX #0 (of 6) (Marvel)

Charles Soule/Jeff Lemire (W) Kenneth Rocafort (A)

If this is half as good as Death of X, it is a must buy. This is the end all of the craziness that has been the feud between X-men and Inhumans. Also we may just get a delightful new catalog of X-men titles spinning out of this.

Uncanny Inhumans #16 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Aaron Kim Jacinto (A)

I’m always excited to see this comic pop up on my pull list. I mean, it’s been solid through and through. Now one of the characters that I was sad to see go may be back…maybe? Is that a good thing? Can memories ever live up to reality. I’ll let you guess the answer to that.

Black Widow #8 (Marvel)

Chris Samnee/Mark Waid (W) Chris Samnee (A)

Black Widow versus a little girl. The fight we’ve been waiting for! Wait, what do you mean you haven’t been waiting for that? Fine, the fight I’ve been waiting for!

Batman Annual #1 (DC)

Scott Williams/Steve Orlando/Paul Dini/Scott Snyder/Tom King (W) Bilquis Evely/David Finch/Declan Shalvey/Neal Adams/Riley Rossmo (A)

It’s holiday season, god dammit. That means we get a funky ass Batman comic, with some funky ass talent. Look at that list. Seriously, those are some great comic creators. I’m pumped for this.

Seven To Eternity #3 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Jerome Opena (A)

Here we go again. Another Remender emotional roller coaster. No, it’s fine, I have enough energy to deal with ANOTHER stressful story. Yeah, no, totally okay.

Deadly Class #24 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Craig Wesley (A)

Do you think Remender had trouble keeping his friends when he was young? I have a feeling he was pretty self destructive. That’s the feeling I get from this comic. He says a lot of it is based on his actual dealing in highschool. Man, I’m glad that guy grew up to be an emotionally stable comic book writer.

Saga #40 (Image)

Brian K. Vaughan (W) Fiona Staples (A)

These last few issues have made my heart hurt. Like a fuck ton. I love it.

After the glorious meal, the townsfolk, of all colors, shapes, sizes, and Glemfeld spectrums, leaned back in their chairs, or hunched forward gripping their bursting guts. A few moments were given for collection, then a booming horn blazed. Slowly the meanlingless black box was brought before the hoard. Once placed on the golden pedestal near the head of the table, everyone jumped from their seats. Blood poured out of open wounds as knives were brandished on neighbors, chairs thrown at children, and elderly falling underfoot. Everyone fought until one stood high. Dangle Drompst took his prize and smiled briefly at his temporary relief before his eyes fell to the dead. It would be a good year, he thought.
