The hand shovel slid into the warm soil like a surgeons scalpel might cut the weak flesh. The living ground crawled and dug around in his hands as he scooped what he could into a pail. Beside him was his partner, fellow scientist Dr. Karen Shirow. She waited with life in her hands. The cure to the world’s ailments. A plant genetically modified to suck the toxins out of the atmosphere with incredible efficiency. The boards and bureaucrats had cut their funding. This was a plant birthed from blood. Hearts poured into work that could save us all.

Divinity III: Stalinverse #4 of 4 (Valiant)

Matt Kindt (W) Trevor Hairsine (A)

Man, I gotta say, while this last issue looks to be a badass finale, I’m not sure this is a series that can evolve with it’s current iteration. The first story was Alan Moore-eske and then it shifted to something else. I still dig it, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like there’s more that can be done with the first iteration.

Inhumans Prime #1 (Marvel)

Al Ewing (W) Ryan Sook (A)

I can’t get on my soapbox and say that I’m thrilled Soule is leaving and someone else is moving forward with the Inhumans. I know, these things have to happen, but Soule’s mark on the Inhumans was incredible and I’m sad to see it end.

X-Men Prime #1 (Marvel)

Mark Guggenheim/Greg Pak/Cullen Bunn (W) Ken Lashley/Ibraim Roberson/Leonard Kirk/Guillermo Ortego (A)

This on the other had should get a lot of people excited. The X-men are no longer the red-headed step-child in the Marvelverse. We’re getting a bevy of new titles, and this one-shot sets up the new status quo. Maybe I’ll pick up a couple of these series. We’ll see.

Man-Thing #2 of 5 (Marvel)

R.L. Stine (W) German Peralta (A)

This series stuck me as odd. I mean, that’s not surprising at all, but it is not what I expected. That’s fine by me as long as it’s as good as the first issue was.

Justice League of America #3 (DC)

Steve Orlando (W) Ivan Reis (A)

They’re taking a very “Doctor Doom” approach with their first arc. The Justice League has to fight a team of ne’er-do-wells who have taken over an entire country, but have done so in a seemingly fair manner. The people love them, so what is a team of heroes to do?

Thanos #5 (Marvel)

Jeff Lemire (W) Mike Deodato (A)

The title of this comic should be “The Hunt for Thanos”, because it has less to do with Thanos himself and more to do with the group that is set out to kill him. I’m sure this is just because it’s the first arc, but I do wish it had a little bit more to do with him, especially after that reveal in the beginning.

Black Widow #12 (Marvel)

Chris Samnee/Mark Waid (W) Chris Samnee (A)

Well, after some digging, I think this is the last issue of this series. I am extra sad now. This was one of the highlights of my Marvel pickup

Old Man Logan #20 (Marvel)

Jeff Lemire (W) Andrea Sorrentino (A)

Lemire is winding up for the end of his run on OML. Again, sad to see him leave, but Ed Brisson is a good choice to follow him up. Lets hope he takes the ball and runs.

Infamous Iron Man #6 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Alex Maleev (A)

How long can Doom keep up the good guy act? I mean, I know it’s more than an act, but something tells me that at the end of the day, the dude still has a little evil in his heart. Only time can tell.

Outcast #26 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Paul Azaceta (A)

I haven’t been thrilled with this series recently. Mostly because it seems so uneventful every issue. That along with the delays make me less and less excited to pick this comic up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still better than half of the stuff I read, but still.

Moonshine #6 (Image)

Brian Azzarello (W) Eduardo Risso (A)

The final nail in the first arc’s coffin! I have a feeling this comic is going to have some bloodshed.

The Old Guard #2 (Image)

Greg Rucka (W) Leasndro Fernandez (A)

This is a perfect example of a comic that makes you say “Why the fuck didn’t I think of that”. It’s a story that was dying to be told, and who better to tell it than this fantastic duo.

Deadly Class #27 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Wesley Craig (A)

They got me. I can’t tell you what they got me with, because that would spoil things, and I want you all to read this comic. That being said, the fuckers totally got me.

Within a year the Strangler plant, as it had come to be known, covered over 65% of the planet. Oxygen levels had reached an unlivable 95% of the atmosphere, and it was declining everyday. Humans began building sanctuaries that diluted and removed Oxygen from inside their walls. Humans began burning trash and tires, running cars all day long, reproducing livestock at record speeds, anything to stop the progress. When at first we had once weighted the balance of Earth with poison, we now over corrected our mistakes, sucking all poisons from Earth. This unfortunately included humanity as a whole.
