I loved going to my uncles house. He was a strange man. He had never married or had any kids of his own, which gave him plenty of space in his two bedroom bachelor pad. The walls of his house were covered in shelves stacked with books, strange things he had held on to from business trips, and toys from when he was a kid. It was a colorful, if not strangely quiet house, but that’s not what filled my car ride there with excited daydreams.

Hulk #5 (Marvel)

Mariko Tamaki (W) Nico Leon (A)

Almost dropped this one this week. I did drop a couple others, but this one made the cut. I really, really want to see where this is going. I feel like there is a big surprise at the end of this rainbow. I’m on board.

Detective Comics #955 (DC)

James Tynion IV (W) Marcio Takara (A)

The ultimate badass comes to save the day. All without the use of words, well, with a greatly restricted vocabulary. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, I think it’s about time you picked up this book.

Black Panther #13 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Brian Stelfreeze (A)

NEW ARC! MORE SHIT IS GOING DOWN! Time to get into the Wakandan history.

Justice League of America #5 (DC)

Steve Orlando (W) Andy MacDonald (A)

The comic gets around to that weird plot point that the space mercenary who doesn’t give a shit about anyone but himself suddenly joined a team because a dude in a bat suit bullied him. Yeah, explain that to me.

Infamous Iron Man #7 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Alex Maleev (A)

Huge enemy in the universe meets other huge enemy’s mom, and they totally do it. This isn’t a horrible joke, this is for real. No one fucks with Doom’s moms, no one.

Thanos #6 (Marvel)

Jeff Lemire (W) Mike Deodato (A)

Some fucking intense Thanos badassery in the last issue. Makes up for him getting his ass whooped to Tuesday for like three issues in a row. Interested in where they take the Mad Titan going forward.

The Mighty Thor #18 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Russell Dauterman (A)

Big ole X-men reveal in the last issue. Big ole X-men character joins the fray and helps our Thor battle the big bad alien gods.

Batman/The Shadow #1 of 6 (DC)

Scott Snyder/Steve Orlando (W) Riley Rossmo (A)

This is an awesome team. Seriously. I was thinking about passing on this book until I saw the creatives that are working on it. I can’t say no to that lineup.

Old Man Logan #22 (Marvel)

Jeff Lemire (W) Filipe Andrade (A)

This is shaping up to be the best arc of Lemire’s run. Which is kind of sad being that it’s his last. I really hope they can keep this strong after he leaves.

The Flash #21 (DC)

Joshua Williamson (W) Howard Porter (A)

Holy shit. The last Batman issue was a fucking trip. If you like DC comics in general, you are doing a disservice missing this crossover.

Bitch Planet #10 (Image)

Kelly Sue DeConnick (W) Valentine De Landro (A)

Wow, I never thought I’d see the day that this one actually came out. Hopefully I’m not speaking too soon. I seem to remember something like this happening before.

X-O Manowar #2 (Valiant)

Matt Kindt (W) Tomas Giorello (A)

The first issue of this comic was fucking awesome. This was one I almost passed on but I managed to stumble across an issue after all my LCS had all sold out. I’m glad I did.

Loose Ends #4 of 4 (Image)

Jason Latour (W) Chris Brunner (A)

This dirty fucker is ending. I am incredibly sad to see it go.

Wonder Woman #21 (DC)

Greg Rucka (W) Liam Sharp (A)

Rucka knows how to write him some fucking books, man. This series is tied for best thing DC is putting out, only thing within reach is Batman. Duke it out.

The Old Guard #3 (Image)

Greg Rucka (W) Leandro Fernandez (A)

What did I just say. Rucka knows how to write him some fucking books, man. Incredible first couple issues, they also manage to set up a very believable and visceral world. Keep it coming.

The Black Monday Murders #5 (Image)

Jonathan Hickman (W) Tomm Coker (A)

I can’t get enough of this book. This is a book I can’t wait to own in trade down the line, reread it, and learn something completely new when I do so. This book has got layers, son. Layers.

Kill or Be Killed #8 (Image)

Ed Brubaker (W) Sean Phillips (A)

Who thought a book about a guy with serious mental illness issues, who tried to commit suicide, would be so fucking intense. Okay, well, maybe it makes sense. Either way, this is quickly becoming my favorite book of the year.

Behind his house was something of a mystery to me. I never understood how it worked. Behind him and his two neighbors houses stretched an incredible field. On the left and right borders were lines of giant pine trees. Directly behind his house was a field that stretched as far as the eye could see. I never understood who owned all the land, and never thought to ask. About a thousand yards from the house was a small apple tree, standing boldly in the middle of the field. I used to lay on the hill, so no houses were in sight, only the tree and the field. Clouds would barrel through the landscape, they felt so close to me. I would blow at the sky, hoping to split the clouds, opening space to me and nobody else.
