Johnny had never been to a renaissance fair before, in his ten years of life, he had never been so excited. His parents knew he was an avid reader of fantasy novels and having lost their connection with him the last few years, figured this was an apt substitution for quality time. He barreled down the alleyways and dirt streets, whizing past shop fronts and impersonators howling in something that resembled the Bard’s English. Suddenly he came upon a dark, shrouded tent. Smoke creeped slowly from the edges of the entrance. A woman wearing heavy clothing, and hiding her face beckoned for him.

Luke Cage #1 (Marvel)

David F. Walker (W) Neison Blake II (A)

I really want to dig this series. I plan on trying it out for a few issues. From what I hear, Walker is amazing, so I’m sure this will please.

Generation X #1 (Marvel)

Christina Strain (W) Amilcar Pinna (A)

The line-up on this team has me excited. It’s fairly new talent on this project, so I always support supporting that. Plus, did you see that cover? Awesome.

Green Arrow #23 (DC)

Ben Percy (W) Juan Ferreyra (A)

I feel like the strong stuff in this series happens when they get away from the ninth circle stuff. I get that the repercussions of that stuff is widespread, but I like it when we can get villian of the week stuff from time to time.

The Mighty Thor #19 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Russell Dauterman (A)

Well, that was unexpected. I mean I should have seen something like this happening, but damn. I wasn’t expecting it at all.

Dead Inside #5 of 5 (Dark Horse)

John Arcudi (W) Toni Fejzula (A)

This series was a really great treat. I really wish Arcudi would do more of these crime/noire dramas. He has a brilliant eye for them.

Daredevil #20 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Ron Garney (A)

The last issue of this comic brought this series back to what I love about this comic. Charles Soule wrote a love letter to every era of Daredevil comic, and brought it all home. It was excellent. Thank you guys.

Invincible Iron Man #7 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Stefano Caselli (A)

Fame makes a fool of us all. What can a young person do when every interaction you have is false, who can you trust? Probably not the people shooting at you, but sometimes life is confusing like that.

Wild Storm #4 (DC)

Warren Ellis (W) Jon Davis-Hunt (A)

You know what I like? Knowing exactly how many issues of a comic I can look forward too. Thank you convenient issue counter on the top of Wild Storm comic!

God Country #5 (Image)

Donny Cates (W) Geoff Shaw (A)

Only two more issues of this series before you can collect it in a convenient trade format! Thank God for commerce.

Curse Words #5 (Image)

Charles Soule (W) Ryan Browne (A)

Who else besides an Ex-girlfriend could bring a multi-dimensional wizard to his knees? Maybe his own astounding ego and/or his own self loathing. Maybe that’s just me.

The Flash #22 (DC)

Joshua Williamson (W) Neil Googe (A)

Holy shit! This series has been fucking awesome! Each issue is a crucial part of the DC universe going forward. I can’t wait for this issue. There’s only one DC comic I am more excited for.

Low #18 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Greg Tocchini (A)

There’s no place like home. Maybe that’s for the best.

Batman #23 (DC)

Tom King (W) Mitch Gerads (A)

YOU KNOW WHAT I LIKE MORE THAN BATMAN? A SWAMP THING/BATMAN TEAM-UP! FUCK YES. I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS.

Royal City #3 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W) Jeff Lemire (A)

Want to feel sad? The abstract sci-fi wasteland of Low not close enough? Welcome to Royal City, where the walls are peeling, and the angry shouts of your alcoholic friends from elementary school still stick to your heart. Where your regrets never really fade into your history, but linger around your waking life. Welcome home.

“You know for what purpose you have come to me?” She croaked from the corner. Johnny’s flesh crawled up his spine at the sound of her voice. He stuttered and failed to make any intelligible noise.

“I have seen it, your part in all of this.” She gestured to the walls around her.

“If you can bring me the King’s emerald, I will have you behold a fantasy grander than any of these masqueraders could ever muster.” She sneered when she mentioned the pretenders around them. Johnny’s eyes were wide, he gulped loudly.

“Go boy.” As she said it, he turned abruptly and fled.

There was a pause as the witch stewed in her satisfaction before the butcher from the stall over burst through a hidden entrance in the back of her tent.

“Dammit, Carol, you gotta stop telling kids to steal Cain’s props.”

She whipped around with venom in her eyes.

“WELL, THAT ASSHOLE SHOULD STOP CASTING ME AS ‘THE UGLY WITCH’” She shouted.
