X-Men-First-Class-Days-of-Future-Past

Three more classic mutants have been added to the cast of X-Men: Days of Future PastAnna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), have all been confirmed by director Bryan Singer‘s Twitter:

Bryan SingerBryan Singer @BryanSinger

Very excited to welcome #annapaquin,@ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen#DaysofFuturePast – thank you@BrettRatner for letting them live!

I’ve been waiting for the announcement of Ellen Page‘s return, as her role in the original Chris Claremont storyline is pretty vital. The three will be joining Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Hugh Jackman. X-Men: DOFP is set to be released July 18, 2014!

Days of Future Past will be adapted from Chris Claremont and John Byrne‘s comic book storyline that ran in “Uncanny X-Men#141 and 142 back in 1981. Days of Future Past introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel’s mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.
Also in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Singer spoke a little about the aspect of time travel in the film:
It’s epic. We get to bring both casts together. We’ve cracked it in a way that makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick with them. That’s what makes Terminator and Back to the Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible.
X-Men: DOFP is scheduled for sometime 2014!!

The Wolverine is one of my most anticipated movies of 2013! I am really excited to see a new take on the character and up for some ninja fighting action! Director James Mangold had this to say about his film in an interview with MTV:
Setting and tone
“The wonderful opportunity for me with this film is that 90 percent of it takes place in Japan, and even though other elements remain constant from the other pictures, namely Hugh Jackman, we kind of got our chance to reboot the tone and go a little darker and a little deeper than they’ve gone before with this character.”
Influence of the Japanese setting on the film
“There is a significant amount of Japanese spoken in the movie, and the cast is almost entirely Japanese.  So there is this wonderful sense of cross-pollination between a very Western character and a far Eastern culture, and I think it’s very cool and something we haven’t seen so far.  I think there is a lot of ways that Japanese film, Japanese fighting, Japanese martial arts have had an effect on this movie.  And certainly the movie is dripping with Japanese tradition both cinematically, fighting-wise and philosophically as well.”
Regarding Wolverine’s Berserker Rage
“One of the things that has always been a feature of Wolverine in the comics is that he has a berserker rage, that he has anger and some of his abilities are driven by something more primal… Honestly, to get really pissed off—not cute pissed off, not quippy pissed off, not funny pissed off or cigar-chomping pissed off, just pissed off—that can then help drive the fighting, drive the combat.  That is interesting for me and then for the character, some of the jet fuel underneath some of the combat in the film.”
When are we getting a trailer?
“I think you always want to put your best foot forward.  For me, I’m not the marketing department of Fox, but for my own tastes, less is more… You have a character that’s a bit of a given, you know this guy.  Hugh is so good in this role.  My point of view is ‘save as much as you can,’ but we will be lifting our skirt and offering a peek or two, certainly in the months to come.”
Check out this FLY mutant! Here are some great set photos/glamour shots courtesy of Empire Magazine:
