Previously, Joss Whedon was assigned to writign and directing a Batgirl movie. Whether it was due to the Justice League backlash or his own personal demons brought about by his ex-wife saying he’s not the feminist we all know; he left the project. Whedon cited that ““It took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story”; which seems like a load of bs and I again refer to the examples above. DC has now decided to do the thing they should have done from the start and get a female writer on the project.
Christina Hodson (Shut In, Unforgettable) will pen a new script. Hodson wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Transformers spin-off Bumblebee and previously worked with the character on a Birds of Prey script she was signed to work on. I think Hodson is the write move given the nature of the character and her previous work experience. Don’t get me wrong, I still love Whedon; but this is the smart move.
