Independence Day is HANDS-DOWN the best movie ever made about Independence Day. Why? Bill Pullman’s speech as the President of the United States. What he says about fighting for our rights and not letting the aliens take over our planet, well it sends shivers down my spine to this day. When I left the theater I remember looking into the sky and imagining what it would be like to see those alien ships hovering over head, and what would I do if put in the same situation. Luckily, that hasn’t happened…yet. Good news though, we may be see what happens when the aliens come back in the form of TWO Independence Day sequels.

Director Roland Emmerich says that he’s working with co-writer/producer, Dean Devlin, again to bring us more alien invasions. The big problem is the battle between the actors and the studios. In other words, whose going to be cast and how much money are they asking to be in the sequels? Another aspect is the studio wants the movie to be in 3D, of course. Emmerich does really want to do the movie though, which is a sign it will probably get made. He sat down with THR and talked about how much love went into the first film.

The thing that really hit me about the movie is how much love there is in it: between the characters; that the filmmakers had making it; that the cast had for each other. As we’re approaching a sequel we’re focusing on that aspect of it. Because I think that was really the key as to why it worked for everyone. It was lovable.

The first Independence Day movie is in the process of being post-converted for 3D for a July 3rd release next year. As much as I love the film and would love to see it on the big screen again, I’m not sure if I need that movie in 3D. Depends on what else is out that weekend to really entice me. Any more Independence Day news we here of, we’ll keep ya posted at DFAT.
