So, they’re remaking yet another Paul Verhoeven movie. This time, it’s Robocop. A movie that I love and revere even more than Total Recall; which you can see what I thought of that in my review here. With Robocop though, they at least have decided to get a little better with the casting. Today, we find out that Michael Keaton will be taking over as the villain of the movie.
The movie is being directed by Jose Padilha, whose previous movie Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, garnered him enough clout to get an awesome cast, and take on one of the best robot cop franchises around. Rounding out the cast with Keaton are: Joel Kinnaman stars as Alex Murphy/Robocop, with Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michael K. Williams and Jennifer Ehle.
Padilha had this to say about Keaton, whilst talking to THR, “Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film, and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place,” Padilha said. “It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209s, and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets.”
I’m excited to see Robocop, but I’d more excited to see a cleaned up version of the “Steelbook” DVD on Bluray. In fact, I’d even pay to see that movie in the theater, and I’m sure a lot of others would too. As for Keaton, slap on a Black and White suit and be the “ghost with the most” cause if I were to see another Beetlejuice movie on the big screen…well, “I’d buy THAT for a dollar.”
