Pacific Rim was hands down my favorite film of 2013. Giant robots battling giant monsters, all directed by Guillermo Del Toro. The cast was amazing, the music was epic, and my toy collection grew exponentially from all the figures that accompanied the movie. I don’t know why the film didn’t do as good as it should have in the US; but luckily overseas they love Kaiju and GDT got to working on a PacRim 2 script.
It was always assumed that he would direct the sequel, but today we learn that Steven S. DeKnight will be taking over the reins of the franchise. If your’e not familiar with DeKnight’s work, then I implore you to go watch his amazing series Spartacus or Daredevil. Oh wait? Now you know who I’m talking about; yep, THAT guy will be directing a Pacific Rim sequel!
No news as to when the film will be released, but I can’t wait to see what DeKnight will do behind the lens on his feature-film directorial debut. As more news comes in, we’ll be sure to keep you posted here at DFAT!
