I am a big fan of artwork based on pop culture, and I love to collect books and prints based on my favorite characters. I recently had the chance to get my hands on a book called Silhouettes from Popular Culture, by Olly Moss and Titan Books; and I will tell you it is one of the most creative books I have seen. My only gripe with this book is that there is not an answer key at the end of the book and I am now on a quest to identify a few of the images! Very basic and very simple, each depiction of the characters we all know and love are creatively placed into the pages of this book. Here’s a quick blurb from the book’s introduction:

“As a very simple designer (in both senses of the word) I’ve always been drawn to the silhouette. There is, in all of art history, no simpler way of capturing a likeness-and I’d always thought that making pop culture-infused silhouettes would be a devious way of sneaking girlfriend-safe nerd art onto the walls of my own home.” -Olly Moss

From movies, to television, to video games, Moss has captured a wide array of characters both familiar and obscure. Silhouettes returns the idea of pop-art to the simpler days but by adding a new flare to it. Here are some pages from the book:

Silhouettes from Pop Culture gets a 5 outta 5 stars and is available from Titan Books. So head on over and pick up this book for that Pop Culture junkie in your life, I guarantee it’ll entertain them for hours! Also check out Olly Moss’s website for more of his masterpieces, some of the posters he has created are AWESOME.

Stay tooned 😛
