So, it just occurred to me that we may in fact, be living in the Matrix. Remember when we all learned that deja vu was actually just a “glitch” in the code? Well, it seems that the glitch is once again revealing itself in the sense that Sony hasn’t really learning anything in the last few years. Back in 2014, we announced that Sony was developing a Venom Carnage movie and Sinister Six films. 3 years later nothing has really changed outside of the fact that Sony wants to develop all of these characters in their own separate movies, before we get a full-on villains films.
Yesterday, THR reported that Sony was also developing Kraven and Mysterio films. This is in addition so Silver Sable/Black Cat and a Venom Carnage movie. Have we not learned ANYTHING in the last couple of years? Taking a shotgun blast approach to these films is not the answer, especially without anyone seeing Spider-Man: Homecoming. Don’t get me wrong, I’m trusting of the fact that Kevin Feige is involved in that movie and there are ties to the MCU; but these other movies may not have anything to do with Peter Parker at all.
Now, there’s a good chance that he will, given what producer Amy Pascal mentioned the other day; but this just seems like a “too much, too fast” approach to building up this Spider-Verse. Do I eventually want to see a Sinister Six film with these characters? Yes, but I think it needs to be done in a more organic way. We need a common thread like an Agent Coulson or Clare Temple who can navigate amongst all this chaos and “bind the galaxy” together. Only time will tell if this approach works but given Sony’s track record, I have my doubts.
