When J. J. Abrams decided he wanted to take Star Trek in another direction, a nerd-wail was made by millions. The cast is gonna be young? Does it take place in an alternate reality? Why is Leonard Nimoy in it and not William Shatner? Then, all the Trekkies watched the movie and forgot why they even feared the change to the series to begin with. I, for one, have always loved Abrams and knew he would be making a movie that fans and non-fans alike would all love.

I say all that to mention how happy I am for the new movie. With Abrams behind the camera again and all of the cast returned, I’d be grateful enough. When I heard Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s Sherlock) was going to be the villain, well, I let out my own kind of geek squeal. Take a look at the teaser poster below, and see just what a one-man “weapon of Mass Destruction” is all about.

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.  With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.  As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Star Trek Into Darkness is set to be out May 17th, 2013.
