Hey Star Wars fans, as you’ve noticed lately there has been so much news regarding Star Wars that we have trouble corralling all of this great info into just Sunday articles. So here we have some Star Wars “snippets” to share with you from this week’s news stories so far!

Star Wars is king of the box office

Force Awakens bannerIn LESS than four weeks Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become king of the North American box office. The film surpassed the previous #1, James Cameron’s Avatar, with a total of $758.2 million. The movie still has A LOT of time to keep bringing in the money and push that record even higher. Will it surpass Avatar worldwide? We shall see when the movie hits theaters in China on the 9th. Go Star Wars!

Han “Solo” Movie

han soloUnless you count the Ewok movies as standalone Star Wars movies, the upcoming Rogue One movie will make history by being the first Star Wars film set outside the standard trilogy format. The next standalone film will be based on everyone’s favorite smuggler, Han Solo. The question on everyone’s minds is when will this film take place. Writer Lawrence Kasdan, who also wrote The Force Awakens along with Empire and Jedi, had this to say during a Directors Guild of America Q&A session with  about the time period:

“It will not be, ‘Here’s where he was born and this is how he was raised.’ I think what it will be is what was he like 10 years earlier—maybe a little earlier, you’ll get a glimpse. But Kurosawa once said the heroes are the ones that are still changing and the villains are locked and petrified into what they are, and Harrison embodies in Force Awakens someone who is still not settled on who he is.”

The Han Solo film is set for a 2018 release with directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord (The LEGO Movie) attached.

Star Wars monopoly

The internet was in an uproar over Rey missing from the latest edition of Star Wars Monopoly. Well Hasbro has undone its “wrong” by stating that Rey will be eventually be added as a piece. But I believe that this was all an honest, yet purposeful mistake. The twist that Rey becomes the main character and Force-user in the movie is something that NO ONE wanted to spoil nor be spoiled for them. I feel that this game was made way ahead of the time of the movie and I am looking forward to the updated version of the classic board game with Rey included. Where are the critics when it comes to the clothing out there available for kids at stores like Walmart and Target that DON’T feature Rey. This is a repeat of what happened with Black Widow and is inexcusable, we’re looking at you Disney.
