Let me preface this article by saying that this is not a confirmation that Tom Hiddleston is in fact, The Emperor. It’s simply a rumor that I want to spread around the interwebs, loosely based on what I think are facts and from things that I’ve heard. Recently, Tom Hiddelston told Digital Spy that he was interested in taking a role in Star Wars: Episode VII.

He went on to say “Absolutely, yeah. It would depend on the story and the character and things. But I don’t know, maybe people would associate me too closely with Loki – I hope not.”

So, why do I think that he’d be up for the role of The Emperor? How could he even take on that role when The Emperor died at the end of Episode VI? Well, this is why. If you have read any of  The Expanded Universe, you would know that The Emperor decided to make many clones of himself on Kamino.  The Emperor that Luke destroys in Episode VI is just ONE of those many clones. Later in the EU, a younger Emperor emerges, and Luke himself ends up going to the Dark Side and working for him. Now, being that Mark Hamill is very old a this point, that’s not going to happen; but I see no reason why we wouldn’t see a younger Emperor in the upcoming trilogy.

Not only would it be a cool bridge to the previous films, but Hiddelston is already kinda working for Disney with his stuff at Marvel now. Plus, he’s a tremendous actor, and I think he would pull off a younger Palpatine with style and grace…and fear! So, that’s just my little rant on why I think it’s a possibility. And, you know he’s already up for the idea of being in a Star Wars movie anyway…so we shall see.

We will keep you posted on more Star Wars news as it comes down the trenches.
