Let’s just add another name to the pile of directors that are NOT directing the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. Today’s announcement is geek-god, Joss Whedon. It’s not that Whedon wouldn’t like to direct the film either, it’s just that he forgot he’s got a billion-dollar franchise to steer with The Avengers sequel.

In a recent interview, Whedon talks about his reaction to hearing the announcement of Episode VII.

“I’m as angry as you should be,” Whedon said about the subject of his unavailability. “When I heard that I was like, ‘I wonder… no, I really can’t do that. Oh, I already have a job.’ I wouldn’t clear the Avengers. I’m having so much fun with that sequel right now, just with the script, that I couldn’t imagine not doing it.”

Though, he won’t be behind the directors chair, he did also pipe in on what he’d like to see from the upcoming films.

“Oh I’ve got a lot of things. Where’s my list I’m carrying on me?” Whedon joked. “But you know, I’d like to see a little edge. We all missed the Han [Solo] of it. It got very portentous, which was justified by the story, but I think we’d all like to see a little anarchy in the mix.”

I know that I would have loved to see Whedon behind the directors chair, but there’s always the future films. I’m sure that someday we’ll see a Whedon-directed Star Wars film. Hopefully one that involved some bounty hunters.
