Jedi Children

Rumors and speculation have been swirling around the interwebs faster than Han Solo‘s Kessel run! One of the biggest questions on the minds of all fans is when will this new trilogy take place and who will be the key players? Talks of the return of the most classic characters like Luke, Han, and Leia are being predicted with all of the original stars in negotiations to return. But what does this all mean for the Expanded Universe, the works of fiction that George Lucas sanctioned, that we have all read and loved and readily accepted as cannon? I don’t believe it’s as easy as say making a universe based on a comics property like Marvel where there have been so many different timelines and alternate realities that as a writer allows you to kinda pick and mold an overall acceptable tale. But how do you take what has been established in the Star Wars universe, something that has a very linear timeline, and make everyone happy with out pissing off all of the fan boys? Can this even be done? I’m not sure, like I said before all of the stories over the years from comic book to novel have been watched over by the creative eye of Lucas who would give each author an outline of what would happen in their story, only to turn around and erase some of that himself when he made the prequel trilogy. The story line that is being looked at is a jump ahead, some years after Return of the Jedi, and featuring their children. This of course  makes total sense with our favorite characters pushing their later years!  For those of you who are not familiar with the children of the Skywalkers’ and the Solos’, here are the basics. I don’t want to put any major plot spoilers in here just in case any of you Towelites want to go back and educate yourselves, hit the jumps if you want to know more!

Jacen Solo: Son of Han and Leia Solo. Twin of Jaina Solo.  Best stories: The New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force

Jaina Solo: Daughter of Han and Leia. Twin of Jacen Solo. Best stories: The New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force

Anakin Solo: Son of Han and Leia Solo. Youngest of the Solo children. Best stories: Junior Jedi Knights, The New Jedi Order

Ben Skywalker: Son of Luke Skywalker and Mara Jada Best stories:  Dark Nest Trilogy, Legacy of the Force

So how far does  J.J.  Abrams fast-forward? Will he and Michael Arndt take these characters into account when crafting the script? I at least hope so, I remember the awe I had when I first read Timothy Zahn‘s first venture in to the SW universe with his Thrawn trilogy, to the pages of Dark Horse‘s Dark Empire. I can only hope that the stories that helped shape my love and obsession with the property can make contributions to the future of Star Wars for generations to come!

May the Force be with you!
