Hello all,

Hope this first week of 2013 has been going well for everyone so far.  This week in release we have a good selection.

To start off with the new, we have Dredd, starring Karl Urban and Lena Headey.  This one is also being release as 3D.  Haven’t seen it, so I can’t say much about this one.

Dredd

Next on the new list is Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, with Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.  And yet another one I have not seen yet, the previous for this one made me feel like it was old school Burton, which I loved – so I’m definitely excited for this one.  Plus, it is also released in 3D, and I’m curious to see what stop-motion has to offer in that avenue.

House at the End of the Street also hits the shelves, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Elisabeth Shue.  Reviews on this were mixed, but as long as it’s up your alley, it should be good.  Another shelf item is Stolen, a film with Nicolas Cage… did this one come straight to disc?

Some classics become blu-ray, such as Driving Miss Daisy (Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy), Cape Fear (the original 1962 with Gregory Peck), Fear (starring Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon), Brother Grimm (with the awesome Matt Damon and legendary Heath Ledger – though sadly, not the best of Gilliam’s movies) and a great triple feature collection of old school classics – which include Goonies, Gremlins and Gremlins 2!

Goon/Grem/Grem2

TV gives as Anger Management, Season One – Charlie Sheen’s comeback after his “breakdown”… sadly, I haven’t heard many positive things about this one, nor did I think much of it for the few minutes that I did watch.

Fortunately, TV makes it up to us with another Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season release.  This one includes the blu-ray, the dvd, and the digital copy.  Nothing much more special then any of the original releases, but if you don’t have it, you might as well get all formats in one (that way, you have lend the dvd version to friends and family who don’t have a blu-ray).  And if you have somehow been under a rock, and have not seen this show yet – BUY THIS NOW!  One of my favorite TV shows of all time, based on one of my favorite books of all time!

To go out with a bang though, the most exciting release of the week (for me at least), is season 3 of Archer!  This FX anime show starring H. Jon Benjamin and Judy Greer, is one of the funnies shows on TV.  Its if Bond was a womanizing, alcoholic, pervert – with mother issues – who’s somehow still prevails in being bad-ass.  One of my favorites.

Well, hope everyone sees a little something to start off 2013 on a good note!  Until next week, Towelites!
