Jessica Chastain is having a pretty excellent year so far. She won a Golden Globe and both of her movies, Mama and Zero Dark Thirty, have taken #1 and #2 at the Box Office. In addition to her wins, fellow Golden Globe winner, Jennifer Lawrence, snagged the #3 spot with her film, Silver Linings Playbook. It’s a great 2013 for strong women!
On the other end of the spectrum, the two movies that opened this weekend, Broken City and The Last Stand, did pretty lack-luster. Especially, The Last Stand; coming in at the #10 spot with only $6.3million dollars. The weekend is TECHNICALLY over, given it’s MLK day tomorrow and most people will be off from work/school; so there’s still some hope for an improvement, but it doesn’t look likely.
I’m more excited about next week’s, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters movie taking the #! spot. The film looks like a ton of fun, and it’ll be great to have a fantasy/action movie back in the theatre. It will be going up against, Movie 43, which looks like it’s one step above a Scary Movie spinoff.
