When the latest entry in the Resident Evil franchise decided to call itself The Final Chapter; it may have known that this really was the last nail in it’s cinematic coffin. With a budget over $150 million, it debuted in the 4th spot this past weekend with only $13.9million. Pretty horrible numbers that will not only ensure we don’t see a sequel on the big screen; but is further evidence that Sony is really one of the worst movie studios around. They failed earlier in the Month with the latest Underworld, and it looks like they’ll lose another franchise with Resident Evil.

The big win again this week went to Split. The film earned another $26.3million and has put it’s total almost at $100million domestic. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.
