Never doubt that the 8th film in a franchise will be the most successful. Who would have thought that The Fast and the Furious franchise would be doing so well after all these years? The latest installment F8 earned the #1 spot at the Box Office for the 2nd weekend in a row with $38.7 million. This brings the film to a Worldwide Total of over $900 million. Not only that, Universal wants to give a spinoff film to stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Let the good times roll!

New films, Smurfs: The Lost Village, Unforgettable, and The Promise didn’t fare quite as well this weekend. They debuted in 6th, 7th, and 9th places respectively. Their earnings combined didn’t even come close to how much F8 made. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below!

1. The Fate of the Furious $38.7 million

2. The Boss Baby $12.8 million

3. Beauty and the Beast $10 million

4. Born in China $5.1 million

5. Going in Style $5 million

6. Smurfs: The Lost Village $4.9 million

7. Unforgettable $4.8 million

8. Gifted $4.5 million

9. The Promise $4.1 million

10. The Lost City of Z $2.1 million

Next weekend, the F8 kids will face off against The Circle. The new thriller starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson looks pretty cool; but it doesn’t have super fast cars that defy all logics of gravity. I doubt it will be able to contend against F8, but we’ll have to just wait and see in the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
