Looks like the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 aliens have finally been beat out by the xenomorphs of Alien: Covenant. The Ridley Scott directed sequel to Prometheus took the #1 spot at the Box Office over the weekend by earning $36 million. These numbers are enough to put it in the top position, but it’s a long way off before the movie is profitable. Covenant had an estimated budget of $100 million and that’s before marketing costs. There is still international numbers that have to come in and they will ensure the movie gets it’s planned third installment.

As Guardians 2 dipped to the #2 spot with $35.1 million, the newcomers Everything, Everything and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul took 3rd and 6th spots respectively. They were made for much smaller budgets and for a completely different audience, so despite their lower numbers; they were still a hit. The rest of the Top Ten can be seen below.

1. Alien: Covenant $36 million
