I guess you really can’t keep a good dog, or any subsequent pets, down. The animated film, The Secret Life of Pets, has gone on to be #1 at the Box Office for it’s second week in a row by taking in another $50.6mil. This has put it’s overall domestic earnings at $203.2mil. It’s pretty great news considering the other big film to come out this weekend was Ghostbusters, which debuted in 2nd with $46mil. All of the bad press and mixed reviews had a big enough impact to bring down it’s earnings and will likely not warrant a sequel given it’s $130mil budget.

In better news, Finding Dory has now become the biggest animated film of all time. The movie was in 4th place this weekend with another $11mil, but overall it has earned $445.5mil domestically. This puts Dory ahead of Shrek 2 ($441.2 million), The Lion King ($422.8 million), Toy Story 3 ($415 million), and Frozen ($400.7 million). You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.

1. The Secret Life of Pets $50.6 million

2. Ghostbusters $46 million

3. The Legend of Tarzan $11.1 million

4. Finding Dory $11 million

5. Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates $7.5 million

6. The Purge: Election Year $6.1 million

7. Central Intelligence $5.3 million

8. The Infiltrator $5.3 million

9. The BFG $3.7 million

10. Independence Day: Resurgence $3.5 million

Next weekend, the U.S.S. Enterprise flies once again in Star Trek Beyond. The film has already received great reviews and I have no doubt that it will be able to dethrone Pets. I’m going to place my bets that it’ll open to around $60mil; but we won’t know until the next edition of Weekend Roundup to see if I’m right. See you next week to find out!
