We knew that something would have to take down The Secret Life of Pets from being at the top of the Box Office at some point, and over the weekend, Star Trek Beyond was able to topple the animated juggernaut. The film debuted in the #1 position by earning $59.6mil. It failed to reach the same numbers hit by its predecessors, falling short of Star Trek Into Darkness‘ $70.2 million debut and J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 film, which had a $75.2 million opening weekend. Hopefully, it will be able to recoup some of those numbers internationally.
The other two premieres of the week were Ice Age: Collision Course and Lights Out. The former had a budget of $105mil, but the Ice Age films always do amazing numbers overseas, so I’m sure it’ll easily bridge the financial gap. Lights Out on the other hand had a budget of $5mil; so it’s already a huge hit and will likely warrant a sequel in the near future. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.

Next week, we see the premiere of Suicide Squad. The film had it’s final trailer shown at San Diego Comic Con over the weekend, and people are raving about it.
