Instead of a recap this week I want to talk a little about what the expectations of this show are. On one hand we have the people who are what I like to call “open viewers”, which I categorize myself as, and then there are those who we all know and loathe, the overly critical internet nerds. Yes you know exactly who you are. That no matter what comes out comic book related, you find a flaw or something the studio changed or broke continuity or whatever. I think that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a perfect example of a show that is great but suffers when people keep calling out for more superheroes. Which I hope doesn’t eventually lead to its cancellation. What did everyone expect? We are talking a franchise that is owned by Disney and a show that is aired on ABC, a family network. What is AOS really about? It’s about the team, Agent Coulson’s team. Coulson is the catalyst that has brought these individuals into the fray that we know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the team is what will carry this show.

Think about it. Why wouldn’t you spend time building up the relationships of the team before diving head first into the Marvel mythos? I think some patience is in order, at least for a while. I am excited to see how the show will tie into Thor: The Dark World with next weeks episode, but really that’s all this show should be about. These characters are not superheroes and if Marvel Studios oversaturated this show with them it would totally overshadow the team members. Who would give a crap if Luke Cage showed up all of the time, or Hawkeye was recast with an unknown and had a prominent part on the show. It will be nice to see some B-Listers show up eventually, but at this point I am really enjoying the different missions that our agents are tackling every week. This week’s episode F.Z.Z.T. is exceptional on the emotional front, but really reminds us that though we all love action it’s nice to see the big bad not be a person, or being, this week but an alien virus from a Chitauri helmet. I really like how each member has a different trade and that they are useful in different ways but make a complete unit when they are work together, yet this week feel absolutely helpless when Simmons contracts the virus.  The Fitz-Simmons duo take center stage this week and prove that they can carry an episode on their own. Coulson reveals that he knows something is really wrong with him, even though a blood test he ordered said that everything is ok. He doesn’t believe it, nor should he. Thanks to May’s encouraging words, and revealing that she also died once, Coulson may have a new way to look at his situation, but I still think something is off. We will probably spend a good chunk of this season with a weekly tease at what’s going on with his “resurrection”, culminating in the season finale. You know how it goes.

Agents of SHIELD Fitz Simmons

Remember faithful geeks, this is a show created by Joss Whedon, remember him, he made that Avengers movie everyone loved so much, oh and Buffy and Angel and Dollhouse, oh and remember Firefly and Serenity. So in Joss We Trust, give Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a chance, it’s been 6 episodes, six. It was nice to see the return of Agent Blake, played by Titus Welliver, don’t forget to watch the “after credits” scene. My one complaint this week, why don’t they use the flying car?! When Simmons throws herself out the plane, Agent Ward decided to grab a parachute and jump out of the plane after her, why not take Lola?? You have a flying car….

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 8pmEST on ABC!

Oh hey internet nerds, this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe not the Marvel Comics Universe, just a friendly reminder.

Stay tooned 😛
