Neil Gaiman hasn’t had a new adult book out since 2005’s Anansi Boys, but he’s looking to drop some new material this summer. News came in, that Gaiman is working on a book entitled: Ocean at the End of the Lane. The book is about a narrator who brings upon an ancient evil and entrusts the help of three women who come to his aid.

Director, Joe Wright (Hannah) has been tapped to helm the project for Focus Features and the Playtone team of Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Check out the synopsis below to learn what we’ll be getting into with the film!

Here’s the synopsis of The Ocean at the End of the Lane (viaGoodreads):

It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and menace unleashed – within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it.

His only defense is three women, on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is an ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang.

I love that the narrator doesn’t have a name yet. That they are just an unnamed hero. I hope Gaiman has another masterpiece on his hands, just like I’m sure Joe Wright will after he adapts this book. I’m so excited! We’ll keep you posted as more news on Ocean at the End of the Lane comes in here at DFAT.
