DC Comics has announced another Watchmen character who will be getting a story in their controversial Before Watchmen run. Dollar Bill will be written by Len Wein, who is famous for co-creating Swamp Thing and Wolverine, will help tell the story of this fallen hero.

Origin

An excellent college athlete from Kansas University, Dollar Bill was employed as a masked vigilante for one of the major banks in New York City, an in-house superhero. His name and costume was designed specially to represent the bank.

Minutemen: During the 1940s, Dollar Bill was one of masked vigilantes asked to join The Minutemen. He had a variety of adventurers with the team until the time of his death.

Death: In 1947, while he was trying to stop a bank robbery, his cape was caught in one of the bank’s revolving doors; caught and helpless he was then shot in the head at close range ending his 11 year masked career and life.

Wein had the following to say to MTV Geek:

“The difference between [Bill] and the rest of the characters is that he kind of accepts his lot in life,” Wein says, seeing the character as less wracked by the guilt and neuroses of the other heroes in Moore’s story. He’s not playing out some psychosexual trauma, he’s not trying to reshape the world, and he’s not trying to live up to a legacy–the character simply rolls with the punches and takes a job that offers him a moment in the spotlight and a chance to make a difference. “He just copes,” Wein says of the character. “He’s one of those guys who just gets by, he does what he needs to do.” It’s a life that leaves the character without any lasting legacy, whose innate sadness appealed to Wein.

Dollar Bill #1 will be on sale January 30th, 2103!
