Jon Favreau is one of those unique directors that doesn’t have a movie that’s “So Favreau” or a signature camera movement or something like that. His work can span different genres, and you’d never even know it was him. From Swingers, to Zathura, to Iron Man; he appears to be a director who simply directs on a whim.

It’s this eclectic palate of films that makes me appreciate him as a director even more. His latest, Chef, stars Favreau himself and follows him as a prominent chef who quits his job in LA to run a food truck. Along the way, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara) and his son to help him find his passion again. The first trailer looks pretty good and I’m excited to see Favreau return to the indie films where he got his start.

Here’s the official synopsis for Chef:

Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen—and zest for life and love.[/box_light]
