Tito wandered through the empty hallways, the sound of his father and friends morphing into echoes against the sterile tile walls. He walked with purpose. The secret he kept was a precious gem, and as he closed in on his gem, his chest filled with warmth. The hair raised on his arm, the tension coming to a boil. You could play his nerves like a harp. The light came on illuminating the room full of toys and daycare accouterments.

Wonder Woman and Justice League Dark: The Witching Hour #1 (DC)

James Tynion IV (W) Jesus Merino (A)

This isn’t the at the top of the list because I’m not looking forward to it, but mostly because It’s part of a big crossover, and dammit, you know how I feel about that stuff. Either way, I am actually excited about this.

Black Bird #1 (Image)

Sam Humphries (W) Jen Bartel (A)

I love both of these creators and while I don’t fucking know what this book is about, I trust them enough to throw all of my money at them. It looks gorgeous and the little bits I have seen about it looks massively promising.

Dead Rabbit #1 (Image)

Gerry Duggan (W) John McCrea (A)

This reminds me of The Goon. Everyone loves The Goon. It isn’t The Goon, calling it that probably insults the premise, but I have little to no tact, so I said it anyway. It looks cool and I’m interested.

Batman/The Maxx: Arkham Dreams #1(of 5) (IDW)

John Layman (W) Sam Kieth (A)

Come the fuck on. I have wanted this for so long and now it’s an actual thing and I can die happy. This book looks absolutely perfect. I love Kieth’s Batman design. I love everything about this.

The Lone Ranger #1 (Dynamite)

Mark Russell (W) Bob Q (A)

Normally I might pass up a series like this. I don’t hate the Lone Ranger, but it isn’t something I pay a whole lot of attention to. When I saw the art and the man writing it, that all changed. I cannot wait for this book.

Border Town #2 (Vertigo)

Eric M. Esquivel (W) Ramon Villalobos (A)

I do not know at all how I feel about this book. I really loved some aspects of this book, but then some of it felt incredibly ham-fisted. I may be an absolute moron and missed the subtlety, but as it stands, I just don’t know.

Doctor Strange #6 (Marvel)

Mark Waid (W) Javier Pina (A)

I was thinking about dropping this series. There is evidence in my list like a couple weeks ago. That being said, the surprise at the end of said issue may keep me on board with this series for just a little longer. I want to see how long that lasts.

Euthanauts #3 (Black Crown)

Tini Howard (W) Nick Robles (A)

I love death. It’s a strange focus of interest, I know, but death interests me. This book captures that intrigue perfectly. What happens after death? What can be explored beyond death, if that exists? I dig it.

Death of the Inhumans #4 (of 5) (Marvel)

Donny Cates (W) Ariel Olivetti (A)

This book was made to hurt me. Stop that. Stop trying to hurt me. If you love these characters, this will make you a sad panda.

Justice League #9 (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Jorge Jimenez (A)

Uh, Superman and Batman put back the moon. This isn’t the golden age. I am excited.

The Dreaming #2 (Vertigo)

Si Spurrier (W) Bilquis Evely (A)

This is by far my favorite of the Sandman Universe books so far. I know only like half of them have come out so far, but something about the first issue of this one really grabbed me. Read this book. It is the good.

The Magic Order #4 (of 6) (Image)

Mark Millar (W) Olivier Coipel (A)

Dammit, this book is so damn addicting. If there is one thing I could say about Millar, it’s that he knows how to keep people engaged. Doesn’t hurt that I love magicians. I’m not ashamed to admit that.

Die! Die! Die! #3 (Image)

Robert Kirkman/Scott Gimple (W) Chris Burnham (A)

MORE LIKE BUY! BUY! BUY! AMIRITE?

Tony Stark: Iron Man #4 (Marvel)

Dan Slott (W) Valerio Schiti (A)

This book is miles better than I was expecting. Damn. It’s fun, fast, and just generally more enthusiastic than some of the previous Iron Man series. It’s a deep dive into lore, and the goofiness of the character and that’s probably what we need right now.

Batman #56 (DC)

Tom King (W) Tony S. Daniel (A)

Big things in this issue? Yeah, probably. I mean, you read the last one right? I’m not so sure that Dick Grayson is gonna be super duper. You know. Bat shaped scars, right? If you have no idea what I’m hinting around, I’m sorry.

Redlands #7 (Image)

Jordie Bellaire (W) Vanesa R. Del Rey (A)

IT’S BACK! I LOVE THIS PRETTY PRETTY, SMART, BEAUTIFUL, POETIC BOOK! IT’S A BOOK YOU SHOULD READ AND IF YOU AREN’T, WE AREN’T FRIENDS.

Paper Girls #25 (Image)

Brian K. Vaughan (W) Cliff Chiang (A)

Sexuality is a strange beast. It may seem intimidating at a distance, but up close, it’s just as friendly as a puppy. For an abstract amorphous emotional construct, it can be your best friend, you just need to know how to take care of it. Treat it well. Also don’t be a prick and kick someone else’s puppy. What kind of fucked up monster would do that?

A Walk Through Hell #5 (Aftershock)

Garth Ennis (W) Goran Sudzuka (A)

This book is dark, and confusing. It’s like being in a theater, strapped to a seat, with the audio of some horrible atrocity playing over the speakers. You keep waiting for the screen to show you the violence you hear playing. You try to look away from the screen but something primal within you keeps glancing back. Guilt chewing away at your last shreds of sanity. It’s a little like that. You know?

Tito rolled around in the ball pit made for children much younger than himself. He slid down tiny slides, rocked on small horses, and threw around toys creating a whirlwind of chaos. Laughter filled the room until it stopped. The voices down the hall had stopped. The lights outside the room were off. Suddenly, Tito became very aware of how isolated he was.
