It had been a long day and Trey’s foreman was just trying to make it longer. They had been pulling wire all week and this was the last one to be pulled, but it was wet and cold and Trey just wanted to go home and sleep. The sun had set, and his foreman was at the end of a four hundred foot pipe waiting for him to announce the pull. Trey went to confirm he was ready to go, when he heard something unsettling. The pipe was gurgling, which wasn’t uncommon, but normally they didn’t gurgle his foreman’s name.

West Coast Avengers #1 (Marvel)

Kelly Thompson (W) Stefano Caselli (A)

I have been waiting for this series for a while now and dammit I am excited for this. I love this team, I love these creators, and fuck man, I love that title design. If you haven’t read Thompson’s work, I really recommend Hawkeye. I hope this is just as good.

The Punisher #1 (Marvel)

Matthew Rosenberg (W) Szymon Kundranski (A)

More a continuation, but still, very excited about this one. What happens when you pull the man out of the can? Spoilers, it involves excessive brutality.

Cold Spots #1 (Image)

Cullen Bunn (W) Mark Torres (A)

I have been in love with Cullen Bunn’s horror series recently and I am excited that I get to add another title to the list. I can’t really tell you what this is about yet, but I think it has to do with ghosts or something. I’m fantastic at research.

Avengers #6 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Ed McGuinness (A)

The end of the first arc and can I say. I really hope things pick up. I love this team, I really do, but something feels strange about this title. Maybe I’m being too harsh. Maybe my expectations were too high. The book is good, just not as good as it should be.

Wonder Woman #53 (DC)

Steve Orlando (W) ACO (A)

Okay, the last issue was fun, a little chaotic, but that’s fine. I like a little chaos. You know they say that without chaos we could never really understand order. I don’t understand much so I wouldn’t know.

The Silencer #8 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Patch Zircher (A)

New artist on board. This series continues to be a fantastic little sleeper. I implore you to give this odd book a shot. I think it will surprise you. Also I want to keep reading it, so more people need to buy it.

Black Panther #3 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Daniel Acuna (A)

I really love the way this new series is shaping up. The concept of having characters in the far flung future take on the names of the warriors past give the series a ton of room to build its metaphor. There are a million things that could happen in this book and that has me crazy excited.

The Sentry #3 (Marvel)

Jeff Lemire (W) Kim Jacinto/Joshua Cassara (A)

The last issue of this book has really hooked me and now I’m itching for more. That last sentence was forged as an experiment into cliché article production. How did it affect you? Please let us know in the form of a well written letter.

Old Man Logan #46 (Marvel)

Ed Brisson (W) Damian Couceiro (A)

Hey the series is ending! He’s gonna die! At issue 50! Then, you know, the enevitable twelve issue mini series to really wrap up what fifty issues couldn’t. Yay editorial.

Justice League Dark #2 (DC)

James Tynion IV (W) Alvaro Martinez/Raul Fernandez (A)

The spooky people come out and do spooky stuff late at night when the moon is doing some stuff and some clouds are there or whatever. You know. Spooky stuff!

Redneck #14 (Image)

Donny Cates (W) Lisandro Estherren (A)

The last few issues of this book have really been on an upspike. That’s impressive because this book has been great from the beginning. How many times have I said that? Probably too many!

Daredevil #607 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Phil Noto (A)

One of the characters I’ve always loved and am always happy to see return has, well, returned. Mike Murdock, the sly brother of a lawyer man is back in town and….wait….isn’t Amazing Spider-Man doing this alter-ego split schtick already?

Venom #5 (Marvel)

Donny Cates (W) Ryan Stegman (A)

How many times do I have to say it before you believe me. BETTER THAN THE WATCHMEN! THROW YOUR COPY AWAY AND READ THIS INSTEAD. IT’S PRETTY SIMPLE.

The Amazing Spider-Man #4 (Marvel)

Nick Spencer (W) Ryan Ottley (A)

Uh, Peter, meet Spider-Man! Yeah, wait, I’m pretty sure this is happening in Daredevil too. I wonder if they’ll address that? PROBABLY NOT FOR LIKE ANOTHER YEAR, AND THEN ZDARSKY WILL SAY SOMETHING SILLY IN ONE OF HIS BOOKS OR SOMETHING! MAN I SHOULD BE AN EDITOR!

Black Hammer: Age of Doom #4 (Dark Horse)

Jeff Lemire (W) Dean Ormston (A)

This series has been a fucking trip all the way through. If you are late to the Black Hammer train, make sure you listen to the faceless man on the internet who is currently telling you to do this thing. That’s the way to come up aces. Listen to faceless strangers. Always listen to the faceless stranger.

The Terrifics #7 (DC)

Jeff Lemire (W) Dale Eaglesham (A)

Alan Moore screams in his wizard cave as DC releases even more stuff dealing with his previous works. The world turns away in an apathetic gesture to the strange bearded man crying in his Watchmen footie pajamas.

Days of Hate #7 (of 12) (Image)

Ales Kot (W) Danijel Zezelj (A)

Time to get really depressed about stuff that I say I can’t control but really my apathy just makes the whole situation worse for everyone because my apathy just supports their ability to live apathetic lives. Or something like that.

Die! Die! Die! #2 (Image)

Robert Kirkman/Scott M. Gimple (W) Chris Burnham (A)

For a surprise comic this comic was pretty fucking good. I love Burnham’s art, and this story seems balls to the wall. Almost like a comic called Die!Die!Die! should be shocking or something. Who’d of thunk it.

Royal City #14 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W/A)

Fuck. I am really upset that this is ending. I’m more upset that this is ending than I was during the whole rest of the comic, and this comic made me question my life in ways I hadn’t until now. Maybe that’s just irresponsible on my part. Whatever. Read this book.

“Jason” the wet voice called from deep in the pipe. The site was completely silent, everyone had gone home for the day. The silence was deafening. Then a scream echoed through the construction yard. Trey was still idly holding the rope that went through the pipe, he was transfixed on the scream when it yanked him hard to the ground. Water began pouring out of the pipe, first brown then red. Trey didn’t stay to see if it changed further. His footsteps like the beating of his heart. They carried him all the way home.
