When I learned that BlitWorks would be taking the Old School beat-em up Fight ‘N Rage from Seba Games Dev and giving it the port treatment to consoles, I knew that I had to try it out. I grew up with games like Double Dragon, River City Ransom, Streets of Rage, and countless others. That street fighting mentality is in my veins and I feel like it’s a genre that often gets overlooked. I was more than thrilled to try out this new entry into the ’90s action and play the title for my Nintendo Switch after it’s been ported from STEAM.

First, the game plays like a dream. It only has two buttons that you really have to pay attention to, but within those two buttons are a ton of options on how to fight. I loved that you could go from punching to kicking to launching into a barrage of flying fury and more. They really did a great job in mixing up the varieties of fighting styles not only within an individual character but across ALL of the different characters. There’s three of them to choose from them, all with unique ways to kick-butt against mutants across a variety of locales. I love that the game allows you to play with numerous friends with local co-op, just like an old school arcade game like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

While the story really doesn’t matter much, a bunch of mutants are trying to take over the Earth after it’s been devastated by…stuff; the real greatness in this game is attention to details. The creators really did want you to feel like you were back in the late ’80s/early ’90s and homages the crap out of the games from that era. They also went out of their way to pack the game with special features. From costumes that you can purchase, to speed runs, to a training mode and a lot more that I haven’t even begun to get to. This game has HOURS of material to explore! You can tell that the game designers really wanted to give a love-letter to fans of the genre with this game by filling it with extras that are testament to the genre.

If you’ve been looking for something to scratch that nostalgia itch either by yourself or with a friend, Fight ‘N Rage is the game for you. The graphics, the game-play, the attention to details are all there. I really enjoyed this game to the fullest and can’t wait to get back to it and explore and kick some more mutant butt!
