I love and hate sharks. Maybe in another life I would have been a marine biologist, but not this one. What I am though is an avid fan of sharks themselves, from Jaws to Shark Week you can count me in!

The hugely popular “Shark Week” on the Discovery Channel kicked off its 25th year Sunday with “Air Jaws Apocalypse” followed by “Shark Week’s 25 Best Bites,”which counted down the highlights from Shark Week’s so-far-unsuccessful effort to capture a breaching great white shark.

Yesterday, “MythBusters’ Awesome Shark Special”, featuring Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, explored the top 25 shark myths of all time, followed by “Sharkzilla,” on which experts attempted to manufacture a replica of the megalodon, a 52-foot long shark that roamed the ocean in prehistoric times!

Tonight Discovery will air, “How ‘Jaws’ Changed the World,” a retrospective on the 1975 blockbuster shark film (which will be released for the first time on Blu-ray today (already on its way to me via Amazon)), and “Shark Fight,” about shark-bite victims who’ve devoted their lives to saving their attackers.

“Great White Highway” airs on August 15th, which tracks the movements of the great whites of the Farallon Islands off the California coast, and “Adrift: 47 Days With Sharks” (August 16th), about two World War II servicemen who crashed in shark-infested waters and survived for more than a month at sea among the creatures, round out the week!
