Here’s the thing, I’m fine with the Multiverse, Elseworlds, What If, etc. All that is just fine and dandy in the world of the comics. I generally accept that what’s up on screen for these comic book movies are not going to be 100% faithful to the source material. If that were the case, I’d be up and arms a million times over watching something like Civil War. “Where’s Punisher? Why didn’t Cloak just go and transport people!? Wah Wah Wah” I’m truly fine separating the movies from the comics. What’s just annoying me is this quote below from the director of Joker, Todd Philips.

“We didn’t follow anythingfrom the comic books, which people are gonna be mad about,” Phillips toldEmpire. “We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becomingJoker. It’s about this man.”

You just wanna ignore the 80 years of source material for the sake of…nothing. Nothing at all. There’s absolutely no reason to be doing this. I get it, the Joker really hasn’t had any TRUE origin. Heath Ledger did a great job letting us all know “how he got these scars” and making up a new story every time. You don’t want to take ‘The Killing Joke’ and adapt some of it because…whatever. It’s just, why is this even a DC movie then? Why not just call it Funny Face and simply show a man devolve from loser to psycho played by Joaquin Phoenix? I’d be happy to see that movie and not be pissed off that it somehow, maybe sorta, connects to any some such canon of the comics or movies. Instead, we’re not following ANYTHING from the comic books. Ugh.

The trailer, for me, was a waste of time and now I read this. I’m hoping this is all a fake out and just some sort of buzz for people like me to write articles about it; but if this is true, what’s the point?
