I was going to go on a rant on how much I love John Carpenter‘s ‘Escape From New York’ starring Kurt Russell; and that it’s a sacred film and that it shouldn’t be remade, blah blah blah. Then, I thought about how ENRAGED I was when I first heard that Hollywood was going to remake my favorite vampire flick of all-time, Fright Night. Not only did it take the idea and make it fresh, it also played homages to the original film that all fit in perfectly to the film. So, I’m going to just see how this all plays out before holding judgement.

Joel Silver and his company, Studio Canal, plan on doing more than just a remake of the original. They want to do a trilogy that starts before the events of Escape from New York. There’s no news on who would be the lead, just a few names being thrown around like: Tom Hardy, Liam Neeson, and Gerard Butler. Of the three, I’d only really like Butler for the role. Neeson and Russell are the same age right now, so that just seems weird.

Nothing is really set in stone just yet, other than this project is a go. This isn’t the first Carpenter project to get the reboot treatment. We’ve seen a prequel of The Thing, which was OK aside from all the bad CGI, and Assault on Precinct 13, which I actually thought was pretty awesome. We’ll keep you posted as more news on the Escape from New York reboot comes down here at DFAT!
