Sunday is almost here and I am hoping that we are going to see more of these guys this season on Game of Thrones! When it comes to a zombie horde, look no further than the wights of the Westeros. This undead army is slowly making its way to the land of man, Winter is coming. Well I was lucky enough to get my hands on this figure in advance of upcoming re-release of the Legacy Collection series by Funko. If you are a fan of the show and you have been wanting to pick these up, be patient they will be hitting stores soon, or of course you can save yourself the time of chasing them all down by pre-ordering them, along with series 2, here.

Since the White Walker doesn’t belong to any of the great houses of the Westeros, this guy gets a map as his logo. The color scheme on the window box is appropriate, and makes a good backdrop when posing the figure. I’ve said this before in my other reviews, but the window box is my favorite type of packaging. It’s perfect for display and safe/convenient storage. Funko does a great job by making each character be distinguished with a different colored box, something you don’t generally see when companies are trying to cut corners these days.

game-of-thrones-finale-white-walkers-armySince the beginning of the series, the White Walkers have been a big mystery. When Jon Snow goes over The Wall, we encounter more of these beings and we realize that they are going to be a big problem down the road. Especially when they have amassed an army! Thank the Gods that the biggest problems that we have with the WW figure are only posing issues! The ball joint on the ankle is really smart, don’t get me wrong. This kind of articulation, most of the time, allows for some great posing options. BUT this guy has uneven feet. The way the feet are sculpted make it difficult at times to stand him up. When you have a problem like this the figure will generally fall over, a lot. This causes the leg joints and pivots to become damaged and the figure can become very “loose”. Maybe he’s meant to stand as though he is always slumping.

Speaking of articulation, Funko doesn’t disappoint. All of this great (expected) articulation is included in the White Walker:

  • ball-joined head,
  • ball-hinged shoulders, swivel right biceps,
  • ball-hinged elbows, ball-hinged wrists (side-side swivel),
  • ball-joined torso,
  • ball-hinged hips, swivel thighs,
  • front-back hinged higher and lower knees, and ball-hinged ankles.

Paint on this guy is spectacular. The blueish-white skin is clean and really gives the character the withered look. The way the figure is sculpted is perfect and the textures on the skin really deliver. The head sculpt is dead-on to the one WW we get a look at in the show:

White WalkerThe White Walker comes with one accessory, a spear. Be careful with it, the top of mine split off and I have to repair it. But for a simple weapon it has nice detail to it, and looks just like the one the creature carries in the show. This and more are reasons I can’t say enough about the involvement of Gentle Giant on this series, it makes the figures 10 times better. Instead of just getting a standard action figure, you are also getting a work of art in every box, especially when it comes to these types of creatures. At the $20 price point these days, I find that some companies are really dropping the ball, but not Funko! For their first venture into the world of 6-inch collector figures this is top-notch work!

Funko Legacy Collection Game of Thrones White Walker gets 4 outta 5 Stars. The issues I had with standing him up are enough to take a full star off. In terms of look this figure is perfect, not good for army building of course since the White Walkers are all different, but a nice addition to the lot. I am excited to see these creature be featured more in the upcoming episodes, when they actually become a bigger threat. I have just started reading the novels, so I am currently refreshing my love of the series. I am really looking forward to Sunday’s season 4 premiere, I had hoped to get one more review in this week, but Ned Stark was not delivered on time. I’ll put it out next week. These figures should be hitting stores again soon so keep an eye out, also look for series 2 to hit hopefully sometime this summer. Check out my other reviews of this series: Jon SnowDaenerys Targaryen, and Tyrion Lannister.
