Psycho, Destroyer, Hero, Guardian. Drax is known by many names!
Continuing my coverage of the Marvel Legends Infinite Series, today we will be taking a look at Guardians of the Galaxy team member Drax. Packaging is a convenient window box that allows you to open and remove the figure without cutting any tape, or ripping it. Taking the figure out of its blister is very easy as well, the lack of twist ties is appreciated here. Great looking packaging, I love the artwork of each character on the side of the box.

Drax is a pretty big figure. The scale on him is good and he appears much larger than his teammates, well sans Groot of course. Color on him is really well done, I love how the dark green looks on the figure. The pants and boots are part of his “standard” Guardians uniform, as each character will wear one in the movie. Tattoos are perfectly sculpted onto his body and the paint on them is almost seamless. Even his face is close enough to actor Dave Bautista, which is a good thing when you are going for movie accuracy! So far, I have been more than impressed by the sculpts on these figures, the only let down has been Star Lord’s Peter Quill head. Here we have good accuracy and good work on a very well-rounded figure. One of my favorite features are his eyes! The paint detailing here is really intricate.

Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Drax 03Drax comes packed with two knives, his trademark weapons! These knives have some really nice detail to them, both the handle and blade have alien markings. The addition of sheaths for them, on his boots, is an amazing touch!

Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Drax 04See those eyes?! I think that is a really neat effect!

Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Drax 06Let’s take a look at the articulation on Drax. Here’s what you get:

  • ball-joined head
  • ball-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps
  • hinged elbows, ball-hinged wrists (side-side swivel)
  • hinged torso and swivel waist
  • ball-hinged hips, swivel thighs
  • front-back hinged higher and lower knees, and ball-hinged ankles

I am more than impressed by what this figure has to offer, and the posing options are more than decent. The combination of the hinged torso and swivel waist is my favorite combo. It always bothers me when they do one without the other. The only issue I am having with my particular figure is that the hips are becoming very loose which may end up being detrimental to Drax standing up properly.

Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Drax 05Overall this is a great figure and if you are a fan of the character or want the whole set, pick Drax up! As we get closer to the complete team, these figures look great together and I am happy that Hasbro pulled that off. These characters are so cartoon-y that I think any collector would be happy with the look of these figures. I actually prefer this version of Drax than his previous more comic-accurate version from an earlier wave.

These figures are great for collectors and kids alike, I’m just worried about the prices on these. When they go over the $20 price point you have to start to wonder if it’s worth it. In the end, parents will opt for the smaller scaled, cheaper versions. I’m talking to you Toys R Us. Try to find them for less than twenty! This series should be on shelves and online now so don’t miss out on them!
