More news from the cinematic monster that is Marvel Studios! With the upcoming release of The Avengers on Blu-ray, on September 25th, Marvel is getting very excited to tie up any last details securing their upcoming movie slate. Here are some quotes from Marvel Studio’s co-president, Louis D’Esposito about the titles that we have had less insight into, including Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, two of the more obscure movies in the bunch!

First up, the eagerly anticipated Iron Man 3 trailer and when we are going to see it!

“I [don’t?] have the exact date…it’s just not ready. But I think it is mid to late October, you can watch a first teaser trailer.”

When Marvel first announced the line-up for The Avengers movie team, some fans had a big problem that they did not include ORIGINAL Avenger members Ant-Man and Wasp. We know that Edger Wright has pretty much sealed the deal with Marvel to direct this film after he finishes his current project At World’s End, and that some lucky fans have already seen the test-footage from SDCC, but when will the public get to see the magic?!  The other question on our minds is when will this movie happen?! Let’s have D’Esposito explain:

“ Edgar is just adding the finishing touches and then we will once again make the final visual effects editing. The process is almost complete. Then we will decide when and how we can make it available to the fans. We are more than happy with it. He’s a great filmmaker and we look forward to. I was there when he made the test reel. I now know how it works and it’s going very methodical and planned. First, he designed the concept, then the storyboard, then he produced an animatic, so he knows exactly what he’ll turn. Every morning we visited him, and he had added new material, which we then looked at together. He is a passionate filmmaker and it that’s contagious. We’ve only looked at it yesterday and every time we see it, then we think, ‘Wow! We can not wait to make this film!”

He was then asked how Wright’s Ant-Man would fit into Phase 2, here was his response:

“I’m not sure, so I can not make a definitive statement. Once we know the more accurate schedule, we will make this announcement publicly.”

Along with the Ant-Man test reel, the very first footage from Iron Man 3 was also shown at comic-con this year. And regarding when a theatrical trailer will be released, D’Esposito says, “I [don’t?] have the exact date…it’s just not ready. But I think it is mid to late October, you can watch a first teaser trailer.”

I want to see Hank Pym incorporated into this universe as soon as possible, with or without Janet van Dyne! And none of this Scott Lang rubbish!

Joss Whedon pretty much confirmed that James Gunn was directing Guardians of the Galaxy, but what we didn’t know, and was official announced by Marvel, is that Gunn will also be writing the script as well! This is very exciting news, as we have seen with Whedon’s The Avengers, it is better to give total control the director and his/her vision!

Here’s Gunn’s announcement from his official Facebook page:

“For a month or so there’s been a lot of Internet speculation about my involvement with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Until now I haven’t said anything, because I’m trying to be less expulsive about this project than I am about the rest of my life. But last night I got the go-ahead from Kevin Feige to let you all know that, yes, indeed, I am rewriting and directing Guardians of the Galaxy. As a lifelong lover of Marvel comics, space epics, AND raccoons, this is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since I was nine years old. Kevin, Joss, and all the folks at Marvel have been amazing collaborators so far, and we’re committed to bringing you something majestic, beautiful, and unique. I am incredibly excited. I am also incredibly grateful to the fans and the press for all their words of encouragement and support regarding my involvement with this project since the news first leaked. Thanks – you have, honestly, touched and overwhelmed me. And that’s it for now. Other than the occasional photos of my dog and cat here on Facebook, I’ll talk to you again in August 2014 when Guardians is released!”

Here’s what D’Esposito had to say on Guardians, Thanos and other characters we MAY see come to the big screen from the Marvel Universe:

“We discussed it at the time and I think in The Avengers 2 we will see some new characters. We’re currently working on Phase 2 and we have Iron Man 3 , Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier , so we returned to those franchises to enlarge them, but I think in The Avengers 2 will see one or two new characters. I think Thanos’ presence keeps the audience interested. At the end of Iron Man, many did not know who Nick Fury was and many wondered “who’s the patch?”, this served to generate interest and from there you can go ahead and tell their stories. In the development process we have many characters and stories and we are always planning and a concept that we thought we could use and would be unsatisfactory,  we decided not to do it. Not that there’s a secret formula, as you know we have a Black Panther, Iron Fist, Luke Cage & more that we are developing and things & all you want to be made, but few [films] are made before others. But Rocket Raccoon has the potential to give a good show.”

I would love to see some One-Shots featuring more PREMIERE characters from the Marvel U! These fan-made posters, of Luke Cage and Ms. Marvel, were created by Alex Heaton. Here’s a link to his Deviant Art page, so get on over there and check out his other work!

Iron Man 3 kicks off Phase 2 on April 24th, 2013! Ant-Man we will have to be patient for and may not see it this time around, but Guardians of the Galaxy seems to be on target for a 2014 release, followed by The Avengers 2 in 2015!

Stay tooned 😛
