When Thanos revealed his big, evil purple-self at the end of Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers most of us had a huge geekgasm. Even though I had heard rumblings on the intranets that the Mad Titan would be making an appearance, you never know what to believe, also to introduce such an obscure character like that takes some real balls, thanks Joss. Anywho, heading into Phase Two, starting next year, Marvel Studios has to look ahead to Phase Three and how they will get there. Yes, we will be seeing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2014 and it probably will feature Thanos in some manner, but will he be the big villain of the next Avengers movie? THAT’S  the big question that has been on everyone’s mind lately. Producer Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios has a little light to shed on this subject, here’s a snippet from an interview with MTV:

“There’s a great track record now about lobbing something in at the last moment to get the audience buzzing. Particularly when it came to Thanos, [we knew] that most people in that audience had no idea who that purple guy was — but they could clearly tell he was important, and knew if they asked the two or three people sitting next to them, somebody would know who he was. Clearly, there’s a purpose to us putting him in the end of that movie. We do have plans for him, I wouldn’t say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other. We succeeded in Phase One because we stuck to our guns and stuck to the plan. That plan took place over many, many years and it ultimately paid off. I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what’s right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.”

This leads me to believe that prior rumors of the formation of The Masters of Evil may be on the horizon, especially if we see characters like the Enchantress, Radioactive Man and Baron Zemo show up this time around. Also, saving an epic battle against Thanos gives Marvel enough time to introduce Doctor Strange, possibly take control of the rights to The Silver Surfer, even introduce Adam Warlock! I am all about being patient because I trust Joss Whedon to the end with this universe and know that Marvel wants to do the right thing for their characters.

Stay tooned 😛
