Importance of humor in these films

“I think one of the reasons the Marvel movies do so well is that they keep the comedy amid the action and the drama that is part of these films as well and they keep it entertaining. It’s more like life: even in the worst situations, always making jokes to lighten things up.”

On working in the Sci-fi and Fantasy genre

“I really love getting to go into these places that I would just never be able to come up with on my own, and it’s not how my brain works. So just to enter these worlds is so magical and it brings you back to being a kid where you could just have a complete fantastical world.”

Working with Sir Anthony Hopkins

“It was crazy. I was very intimidated, but luckily he’s one of the kindest people I have ever met. So he made me feel really at ease and he’s just, man, he’s the best. You just sit there and try to remind yourself to ask because he’s just like, you are jaw dropped on the floor watching him.”

Also over the weekend, an action-packed TV spot for Thor 2 hit the waves, here it is!

Perhaps the movie that can be considered the biggest experiment of Phase 2, Guardians of the Galaxy is building up a lot of hype for the film. With an all-star cast and a great director in James Gunn, here’s what a couple of the film’s stars had to say about the project and possible continuation of the series!

Michael Rooker on GOTG sequels

“When I first got the role of Yondu, [director James] Gunn was like, ‘Don’t read any of the comics!’ but It’s beautiful stuff. Whenever you do a film of comic book characters and stuff you don’t know how much you can show, you don’t know how much is going to be brought out. Nowadays movies are done and they already have two or three others planned out. So stuff you do in this one, you ask “Why aren’t we doing this?” and they say, “Well be patient!”

Chris Pratt discusses comics and getting into the genre

“I wasn’t too big into the stories, but I loved the artwork and the covers. I’d like to draw a lot as a kid myself. So to see that, as they did making these comic books, they’ve hired the best artists in the world to do the concept artwork and to design these worlds. It’s so imaginative and so unreal. We’re working really hard and I’m in a bit of a daze, but I just can’t wait for people to see what we’re doing out there. I think that footage they showed at Comic-Con is very accurate to the movie that we’re making. I thought that footage was pretty badass. I think tone is the major thing we have to accomplish, a consistent tone, going from silly and comedic to high-stakes drama and action, and everything in between. It’s really up to James, and I trust everything that he’s doing. I think we’re getting good stuff. I don’t know what to say about it other than it might be…Oh! It’s the greatest movie of the 21st century! That’s what I’ll say. It’ll be the Citizen Kane of movies other than Citizen Kane.”

What does Pratt think of GOTG sequels?

“A lot of it’s just going to depend on what people think of the movie and if it makes sense for Marvel to keep making more of them. But I sure hope it does because I’ve never done anything like it. I hope they make ten of them.”

Captain america 2 The winter soldier banner

I am more than ready for 2014 to roll around, not only are we going to get GOTG, but a Captain America sequel as well. Featuring one of my favorite charcters in the Marvel U, The Winter Soldier, this film is the top of my list. Here’s what one half of the rother director team had to say on the film, and also new-comer Anthony Mackie, the Falcon, had to say about his role!

Joe Russo on Emily Vancamp aka Sharon Carter aka Agent 13

“We wanted someone that Cap would have an immediate interest in. It had to be a strong-willed person, and we felt that Emily’s work on Revenge was a great test tube for what this character could be. She’s obviously very credible with physicality, she holds the screen really well, and she even looks like the character from the books.”

Anthony Mackie on if the costume felt silly

“Not at all! The funny thing about that was, every time I put on the costume I felt kind of invincible. So It was more trying not to get in trouble! I felt a little ridiculous at first because you’re a thirty-something-year-old man dressing like a cartoon hero, but after a while you start buying into it.”

Anthony Mackie The Falcon

Will Falcon be around for awhile…

“I’m under contract for a bunch of movies but I don’t know if Avengers 2 is one of them. You’ve got a bunch of guys that get paid to go to work with their friends and have fun every day. Why wouldn’t you want to be a part of that?”
