So what set this week’s episode apart from the rest? At least 90% of it was set on the island, and I couldn’t be happier! ‘The Odyssey‘ may have been one of my favorite episodes of the series yet. The only thing I have a problem with is the “kindness” of Slade Wilson. The introduction of Manu Bennett last week, who we know in the comics as Deathstroke the Terminator was an interesting move and something that I did not expect. Wilson reveals that the person we all orignally thought to be Deathstroke is actually Billy Wintergreen. Wintergreen is actually a DC Comics character. In the funnybooks, Wintergreen is known as Wilson’s war buddy, check out his bio here. The episode took place primarily on the island because Oliver spent most of the episode unconscious from his mother shooting him. You know because it was a great idea for him to confront his mother as the Hood. Nonetheless, Oliver had to reveal his identity to Felicity in order to escape and get back to the hideout so Diggle could fix him up. Flashing back to the island between nearly dying, it is revealed how Oliver began his training and formed a relationship with Wilson. It is also revealed why Yao Fei (Byron Mann) is like putty in the hand of Fyer, he is holding his daughter hostage! Wilson battles Wintergreen and stabs him through the eye, I am sure he’s not dead and we will see him take on the Deathstroke role eventually, who knows how this will all turn out. All I know is that the more episodes that are island based the better! In the end Felicity tells Oliver that she will only help the team until they find Walter, but we all know better. The reference to The Odyssey is quite symbolic in Oliver’s quest to get home. At the end everyone is still stuck in purgatory island, I’m glad it wasn’t that easy to get off of it, we still have 4 years or so to go!
