The same day that rumors of a Top Gun sequel bobbed around the internet, it was announced tonight that director Tony Scott has committed suicide.  Scott jumped to his death, without hesitation, Sunday from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s officials. An apparent suicide note was found in his truck, not many details are available.

Tony Scott was the director of films such as Top Gun, True Romance, Days of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Man on Fire, and Enemy of the State. Scott and his older brother, producer Ridley Scott, were co-producers on the CBS dramas “NUMB3RS” and “The Good Wife.” The pair recently wrapped “Coma,” a four-hour, two-night medical thriller starring Ellen Burstyn set for release next month on A&E.

Update: Tony Scott’s battle with brain cancer may have been motivating factor.
