The ‘idea’ of a new Ghostsbusters movie has been going around for a long time now. It’s best seen in comic books and video games, but Dan Aykroyd has also advocated that there will BE A THIRD FILM. He’s talked about the old Busters ushering a younger four-some to take over for the old guys; and he’s hinted at the possible return of Bill Murray. In a recent interview with Larry King, it looks like he has more details confirmed and if you’re holding out for Murray; don’t hold your breath.

About the new group of kids “We’re going to have to cast. We need four new ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students,” stated Aykroyd.

For the plot of Ghostbusters 3, Aykroyd went on to say, “It’s based upon new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University.” Aykroyd added, “Basically there’s research being done that…I can say that the world or our dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width, and time, become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And Ghostbusters, new Ghostbusters have to come and solve the problem.

He also mentioned the fate of Bill Murray joining the crew.

He’s a good friend, I love him, he just doesn’t want to reprise the role. However, there will be a hole for him. If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place.

Sad news for that, but I’m still excited about the possibility of this movie getting made. Let’s just hope that this isn’t all the same rumors we’ve been reading for years. We’ll keep you posted as more Ghostbusters 3 news comes here to DFAT!
