For what seems like forever, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been cast as Black Adam. I mean we are talking as far back as the early days of what was once known as the DCEU. As Warner Bros and DC decided to refresh there approach with their movie-verse, what does that mean for the long-time in development hell Black Adam movie? Shazam hits theaters next month and it’s already getting some positive reviews. Since the filmmakers decided not to use Black Adam as the villain it still left him out of yet another DC movie. Well until the rumor train started up today.

Word has it that one of my personal favorite characters may make into the film, Hawkman. Screenwriter Adam Sztykiel has included the winged badass in his latest draft which also includes heroes Stargirl and Atom Smasher. The only thing that I question is Stargirl seeing that she has a show headed to DC Universe, but then again it seems like DC is all about playing in that multiverse sandbox and I am ok with that. What I am super ok with is the big screen debut of Carter Hall. We have been “treated” to a couple different versions on television on shows like Arrow and Smallville but never in a movie. To be honest I think that this is a really good idea as the Egyptian origins of both could play out nicely if treated correctly. Of course these are all rumors as of now because the film isn’t even on a current release slate and is expected to start production next year. Seemingly that would probably give it a release date of sometime in 2022, unless WB and DC add to their current schedule.

IF the release date is 2022 that would be eight years after Johnson was announced to play the anti-hero, which I’m sure he is fine with. At the same time most actors wouldn’t wait around for a role like this. If Shazam is as good as it’s being hailed, then we may see the Black Adam production bumped up. DC has been making a lot of moves lately and we;ll keep you updated when we learn more! If you are interested in a great Hawkman read then pick up the current series going on right now by writer Robert Venditti and artist Bryan Hitch.
