Hey Towelites! Fresh off of NYCC we have some great news for you from the Marvel movie universe!! Time to round up all the latest news and rumors!

You all know how much we here at DFAT adore Clark Gregg, well Chaz and I had the PRIVILEGE of actually running into him at NYCC, though very brief, we smiled at him and he smiled back and we exchanged pleasantries, I love Clark Gregg and I am READY to see him on a weekly basis as the STAR of the new SHIELD TV show coming from Marvel and Joss Whedon!!!! Here’s some quotes from Whedon and Marvel producer Kevin Fiege:

We all love Clark Gregg, there’s no doubt about that,” Whedon said.  “From before we made ‘The Avengers,’ we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death. … The fact of the matter is, as much as we love him, now that I’m really running Marvel, I like to keep a type of artistic integrity, which means we don’t stretch the bounds of reality.” Kevin Feige said, “There was never going to be a ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ show without Agent Phil Coulson!” “He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was,” said Whedon.

Here’s an interview video courtesy of Marvel with Gregg:

Some casting rumors are afloat for the Captain America sequel “The Winter Soldier“. Apparently Marvel is looking for a “very physical”  male to join the cast, probably as a villain  My hope is Baron Zemo on this one, we already have the Winter Soldier as the “villain” but as we know Bucky will most likely be redeemed by the end of this one, but who is the puppet master villain behind all of this?? Time for some love for the Masters of Evil!! Josh Holloway (LOST), Nikolaj Coster Waldau (Game of Thrones) and Kevin Durand (Wolverine: Origins) are on the short list!

In other casting news, Marvel also has their eyes on Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim) for the lead female role, Sharon Carter please, this is of course very salty rumors since Marvel has not made any offers as of yet, but I think she would make a good comparison to Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter.

Hey Rocket Raccoon fans you may have a little disappointment heading your way, apparently Marvel is looking to only feature three of the Guardians in the movie,  Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax The Destroyer, well at least “for the moment”. These three characters are getting visual and back story updates to meld them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sticking with the plot that we are familiar with:

a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

Being that this will be Marvel’s most obscure outing to date, it makes sense that they would feature the three most accessible characters to mass audiences. BUT don’t give up hope quite yet for Rocket Raccoon and Groot, you know that Marvel does not aim to disappoint their fans!!!

Finally today we have the official synopsis for The Dark World, which may just detour the whole Masters of Evil concept, but your never know!!! Check it:

“Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
