As many of you know we normally delegate Star Wars articles to Sundays but with so much going on in that galaxy far, far away it gets harder and harder to not report the news when it happens. So here we have some Star Wars snippets from the geekverse this week!

Who’s goin’ Solo?han solo

With Rogue One nearing release this year, it’s time to concentrate on the next “A Star Wars Story” standalone film. The Han Solo film will feature the adventures of everyone’s favorite smuggler set ten years before A New Hope. The question on everyone’s mind is who will take over this coveted role? Variety has revealed that there is a shortlist of about a dozen actors who are in line to play the character including Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner to name a few. What do you think Towelites? Do you think any of these actors have what it takes to do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs?

“Uncle” Chewie and Ben

Think about the relationships that Star Wars brings to the table. For those of you who thought that The Force Awakens didn’t give us enough backstory for the new and old characters alike, take a look at this comic that Tyson Murphy, the Lead Character artist at Blizzard Entertainment, created to remind us of the relationship that Chewbacca had with young Ben Solo. Makes you think twice about the way Chewie felt taking that shot in the movie, doesn’t it?

The First Order Strikes Back

Boyega Finn Star WarsFor those of you who thought that MAYBE The Force Awakens harkened back to A New Hope a little too much, then you may have some speculation on this one. Actor John Boyega spoke with Vogue about the “tone” of the next installment, which sounds an awful lot like a certain sequel from that galaxy far, far away.

“We just starting work on Star Wars VIII, the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again. … It’s great. Much darker, but we’re very excited.”

What do you think Towelites? Will “The First Order Strike Back”?

“We Want Lucas Back!” Shut up!

George lucas noPeople want George Lucas back on Star Wars so much so that they have started an online petition. For me this only goes to show how much the internet gives voice to those who don’t deserve it, but that is a rant for another time. In reaction to this, Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) had this to say to ET:

“It’s funny, I saw that, and it was on a day where I was at LucasFilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we’re going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy.”

“When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy. When you try to pitch what that movie’s about – if you’ve never heard of Star Wars before, you say, ‘Here’s a character. His father’s part robot, but he can also do magic. And there’s a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He’s got a dog for a friend!’ – it sounds insane but it’s the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it.”
