It just goes to show you that a movie doesn’t have to be a critical success for it to be a financial one. While the Freddy Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, wasn’t critically lauded, it was financially. The film was able to take the #1 spot at the Box Office this past weekend by earning $50 million. That’s the 2nd highest opening for a musical biography behind Straight Outta Compton.

The newcomers of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and Nobody’s Fool didn’t fare nearly as well, with them landing in 2nd and 3rd place with $20 million and $14 million, respectively. This is even more depressing for the former, as the movie reportedly cost $125 million to produce. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.

1.Bohemian Rhapsody $50,000,000

2.The Nutcracker and the Four Realms $20,000,000

3.Nobody’s Fool $14,000,000

4.A Star Is Born $11,100,000

5.Halloween $11,015,000

6.Venom $7,850,000

7.Smallfoot $3,805,000

8.Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween $3,700,000

9.Hunter Killer $3,525,000

10.The Hate U Give $3,400,000

Next weekend, will be interesting as it premieres The Girl in the Spider’s Web and Overlord. While I’ve heard nothing about the new ‘A Dragon Tattoo Story’, I’ve read some fantastic reviews on Overlord. My money is on that one being able to take down Bohemian, but you’ll have to tune in next edition of Weekend Roundup to find out if I’m right!
